Chapter 14

*Celina’s POV*  I couldn’t sleep at all last night. I was still missing important information as to why this happened to me, while trying to get used to two separate voices in my head wasn’t fun at all. How do you find a perfect balance between human and wolf? I would assume only one other voice would make it easier, but having a sassy wolf and a practically warrior lycan in my head bickering about whether to give Victor a chance or make him suffer wasn’t really my choice of a good time. ‘Can you two just quit it for now’ I snapped at my counterparts. Calypso huffed and grumbled, feeling her recede in annoyance. The lycan however, kept pushing it.  ‘Listen Lycan, until you tell me your name, I can’t coexist with both of you’ I tried to reason with her. She growled, giving me an annoying headache before leaving me alone. “Or just ignore me” I muttered out loud as I got myself ready for school. As I made my way down the stairs my mother stopped me, giving me a stern look.  “And where do you think you’re going?” questioned my mother. I looked at her confused, raising an eyebrow in the process. “School? You know that torture place where we’re stuck for five plus hours of never-ending droning about equations, anatomy and history?” My mother scoffed, smacking me upside the head. “Ow…” I muttered, rubbing my head. It was bad enough I woke up with a headache, but I swear at this rate I’ll end up with an aneurysm.  “You can’t go to school, at least not for a couple of days” My mother informed me. “Wait why?” I asked surprised. My mother rolled her eyes as I followed her to the kitchen, eyeing the delicious pan of cinnamon rolls. “For starters everyone knows you were attacked by rogues, so you’re technically recovering at home” my mother spoke as she placed a plate with a cinnamon roll in front of me. “And since technically no one knows you’ve…recovered” she continued, avoiding the dreaded word of ‘change.’ “We have to make sure you stay here so you can be fully recovered in normal human terms”  I sighed, grumbling under my breath before deciding to just inhale the roll. Licking my fingers and lips from the sugary creamy icing I looked up from my plate, giving my mother the saddest puppy eye look ever. “Can I at least get out of here? It’ll be suffocating staying here” I pleaded. She crossed her arms and shook her head.  “No can do missy. So either go back to your room and study so you’re not behind, or sit on that couch. We still don’t know what can trigger you to shift yet, and we also have to make sure you are in control at all times” my mother warned me. I couldn’t argue with her on that. I wasn’t sure if I could be in control of all three sides of the equation now, but I just hated doing nothing all day! I was saved from my internal battle by the door bell ringing. Freedom! “I’ll get it!” I practically shouted as I ran towards the door. I scrunched up my nose at the scent.  It wasn’t a bad scent, but it felt like something was muddling it, like pushing it underneath water and making it hard to pinpoint a specific scent. I opened the door and was surprised to see Tommy standing there, a look of relief over his face as he saw me. “Oh thank God you’re okay” he sighed out before hugging me briefly. “How did you know I was here?” I questioned surprised. He snorted as I motioned for him to enter, leading him to the kitchen.  “Cinnamon roll?” I offered. He nodded as my mother placed a plate in front of him. “Tommy it’s been a while.” My mother eyed him with a friendly smile. “Thank you Mrs. Hayes. Your house is always filled with the most delicious smells of food in the neighborhood” Tommy complimented my mother, who laughed slightly. “I’ll leave you two at it, but remember Celina, no leaving” she warned me as she left the kitchen. I crossed my arms again, pouting slightly at my current house arrest.  “I checked the hospital first, but they told me they discharged you yesterday after the rogue was spotted around the hospital” Tommy continued, taking a bite of the cinnamon roll. I looked over his shoulder to make sure my mother wasn’t around before grabbing another roll. “You look okay…not someone at death’s door” he commented, his eyes narrowing as he looked me over. I laughed nervously before shoving the roll into my mouth, effectively choking on it. He patted my back gently as I coughed out my almost near death experience before grabbing a glass of juice and downing it.  “You know what they say…it’ll take more than that to get rid of me” I played it off. He looked at me unamused. “Can we at least go to the tree house?” he suddenly questioned me. Why did he want to go to the dingy abandoned fort of our childhood? “Uh…sure?” I asked more than answered.  “Mom can I at least go to the treehouse?” I shouted as I leaned out of the kitchen. I heard my mother muttering something about misbehaving children before she agreed that it would be as far as I could go. I high fived a confused Tommy before we ran out of the back door, effectively racing towards the old and dilapidated tree house.  I climbed the treehouse with ease as Tommy followed suit. We sat side by side on the wooden floor of our ‘fort’, which basically was a wooden floor half assed on top of a few thick branches and a make shift roof to block the sun. Our legs dangled on the edge, our arms resting on a wooden rail that was attached to prevent us from falling over and dying. Now that I think about it, it’s pretty useless for werewolves and it was more for me to not fall over and die during our fun filled childhood years.  “So…what’s on your mind?” I asked, feeling the tension suddenly get thicker between us. “Are you sure you’re okay? Anything different?” Tommy questioned me, looking at me intensely. I blinked a few times, feeling odd about his stare. “Why would I feel different?” I asked confused. His questions were off. Why would he ask me about things feeling different? Wait, does he know as well?  “I heard Victor rejected you” he said as he leaned back and looked through the foliage towards the sky. I inhaled sharply, turning my head away as I looked over our house. “Guess news travels fast in this community” I said bitterly. He sighed, patting my hand gently. “He…told me personally” Tommy answered. I turned my head so fast I heard it crack, a groan escaping my lips as I rubbed my now whiplashed neck.  “He did what?” I shrieked. Tommy winced at my voice, rubbing his ears for a moment. I saw him fidget a bit before taking a deep breath. “Lina…” he began, suddenly rubbing his arm nervously. “I know about our bloodlines…I have that gene too” my eyes widen at the revelation. He had lycan genes as well? I opened my mouth, but was only met with silence. I closed it again, my brows furrowing. He looked at me half amused before shrugging, as if I had asked a question he didn’t know an answer to.  “We’re the same, but different. My lycan gene is more diluted than yours. From what my parents told me, and what I found out during my research crusade, is that your family is a direct descendant of the first Lycan William.” For some reason that name made me shudder, a flash of those amber eyes in my head before I shook my head slightly. “So is that why you remained human when Mel did…you know…” I stammered towards the end. He looked around before turning slightly to look at me, shaking his head in a no.  I narrowed my eyes at him and sniffed him, but he smelled the same…a human. “I don’t get it” was all I said frustratingly. “How are you still human and I became this…this…thing?” Tommy blew out a breath, his gaze lowering. “So you did change” he whispered. “Come again?” I asked annoyed. “You’re a lycan now? So that means you have that voice in your head?” he questioned me. I growled frustrated as I crossed my arms. “Voice? More like voices” I grumbled back.  “What do you mean voices?” he questioned me alarmed. I looked at him annoyed. I was mad that even Tommy knew about my little problem before even I did! Why was everyone keeping me in the dark? “Yes…voices. I have a wolf named Calypso, and the Lycan…well let’s just say she’s being a bit a b***h about her name” I snapped. I saw him get lost in thought before he stood up.  “That’s not good” he said nervously. I stood up as well, poking his chest. “Spill it Tommy….what do you know?” I questioned him, my anger slowly rising. “I only read about it during my research, but that only happened once before, and it was when William went on a rampage. The only lycan in existence with two wolves that can control both animalistic sides, but she eventually gave up her life to stop him.”  “Her?” I questioned further. He slowly nodded. “Said to be the Goddess personal warrior herself, I think her name was Eris” why did that name sound familiar? I shook my head out of those thoughts for a moment. “So why are you still human?” I questioned again. He sighed, closing his eyes before lifting the short sleeve of his arm. There was a intricate tribal tattoo around his bicep.  I heard the lycan growl in my head slightly, angry over it. “What is this?” I asked dumbfounded. “A tattoo” he replied sarcastically. I narrowed my eyes and growled at him before he raised his hand in defeat. “I know that stupid…” I muttered. He chuckled slightly as he lowered the sleeve back down. “It’s a tattoo…but it’s enchanted” he looked around again, making sure we were alone before leaning over and hugging me. I stiffened at the action, unsure as to how to approach this awkward moment.  “I can’t say much…but it’s enchanted by a witch” he whispered into my ear. My eyes could’ve probably fallen off by now with how they bulged. Witches? “I know I’m being watched, so I can’t leave yet. But if you’re willing to have your freedom back, she can place a similar tattoo on you, and it will suppress your lycan side, so you would still smell...”  I cut him off “Human” I finished. He pulled away and nodded. “Everything about you will return to normal. She would be suppressed, so you wouldn’t have to worry about the lycan Mania." “Lycan Mania?” I questioned. He nodded somberly. “When the lycan takes full control of the host body, destroying the human side and become feral and manic, like a wild beast….the same fashion William lost his humanity and became a monster. Lycans are too strong for our minds…so they slowly take over and things get chaotic. That’s’ why they were hunted down by hunters and werewolves alike” I took a step back, a gasp escaping my lips. Is that why humans weren’t allowed to mate with wolves? They would become lycans driven into madness?  “I can help you Celina…the lycan’s power get stronger near the full moon. So it’ll be a struggle every single full moon from this point forward. You might be able to fight it a couple of times, but each time a piece of your mind and your humanity will be lost. Think about it at least…I’ll be around ready and willing to help” He jumped off the tree house and I looked on surprised as he landed softly on the ground. A smug smirk was plastered on his lips as he showed off his abilities before walking away. Would this be my fate as well? To get lost in the madness and kill everyone around me?
