Chapter 5

2006 Words
*Celina’s POV*  I would love to say that the next day everything was back to normal and we were all bffs again. You know, chilling in our rooms, stuffing our faces with ice cream and pizza, laughing at the gossips about us, and wrestling around. I mean, that’s how it was before this jerk face left for his training a year ago, and now it’s been three weeks since he came back and I’ve been avoiding the dynamic duo like the bubonic plague.  “Lina!” and there’s my cue to run for the hills! I ducked under a few classmates and literally sprinted towards the exit, jumping down the flight of stairs like a rabid animal and sprinting into the gym. I few onlookers stopped to look at how I was being chased by Mel and Vic and damn they were fast! My sprint could put Olympic gold medalists to shame at this point as I practically kicked the gym exit door open and ran towards the outdoor fields. I’m so grateful for my endurance training as we were growing up, otherwise, how would I be able to keep up with two alpha pups?  I could be the bigger person here. I could’ve called Mel, asked her to come by and demand an explanation for rejecting Tommy. But Tommy was adamant in my involvement in his love life, and I was still pissed at them for how they handled the sensitive topic of mating to a human. How far had I ran already? I’m sure we’re beyond school grounds now and probably in the woods. But was that going to stop me? Pfft! You bet it won’t! Were my lungs burning from oxygen deprivation? Of course! Should I stop to catch my breath? Sounds like a plan, until I turned my head slightly and noticed that the two following me were following me on all fours. Well s**t! They shifted…oh I’m screw—ack! I tumbled unto the ground as a golden wolf tackled me, rolling out of the woods and into a small downhill. I groaned as I felt the weight above me, pressing me onto the ground as a growl vibrated close to my neck. A sudden feeling as if my body was numb and asleep, and slowly waking up with the tingly sensation of pins and needles ran through my entire body, but not in a painful oh god just chop my leg off feeling. It felt different…as if the tingly sensation was waking me up and making me want to curl my toes in delight. I slowly opened my eyes, staring at the silver eyes with blue specks glittering all over and I gasped for air.  I knew it was Victor who tackled me. His wolf is massive compared to Mels, but holy s**t even in his wolf form his scent is so intoxicating! When did he smell so good? Earth to Lina…focus! “You know…you’re heavier than you look” I wheezed, trying to push him off me. He growled again, his snout digging into my neck as he began to lick me. I squirmed at the ticklish feeling, trying to suppress the weird noises trying to come out of my chest. Why did it feel so damn good?  “Off furball” I snapped as I kneed his ribs, hearing a whimper as he stood up and shook his body, stepping away. I sat up, rubbing my neck with one arm, and my back with the other. That was sure going to leave a mark in the morning. “Seriously Lina, how the hell did you learn to run so fast?” huffed Mel as she caught up to us. She was fully clothed thank god and tossed a pair of sweats towards Vic’s direction. I turned to see where the clothes landed and there was Vic fully transformed in all his naked glory. “Oh for f***s sake!” I squealed, covering my eyes with my hands. “A little warning!” I shouted through my hands. I heard Mel chuckle before I felt her sit next to me. “He’s good now” she said as I peeked through my hands to see Vic shirtless with the sweats on. I have to admit, ogling between my fingers was ten times better than being upfront at the moment. How does he look so heavenly delicious? My gaze wondered higher and noticed a smirk plastered on his face.  I scowled and lowered my hands, glaring at him and hoping my glare would incinerate that smug look on his face. He ran a hand through his hair before sitting down on my other side, the two effectively caging me from another escapade attempt. I crossed my arms, crossing my legs as well as I started at the two. “What do you guys want?” I asked annoyed.  “We’ve been trying to talk to you for weeks. You won’t return my calls or texts…and whenever I come over and your mom lets me in your jumping out the window like a mad woman” Mel started. That was true…I would jump like my life depended on it…I just wasn’t ready to deal with them and the fact that all this time, I wasn’t really as important to them as they were to me. I didn’t want to hear it and have everything I thought crushed and destroyed.  “Can you blame me?” I responded, glaring at them. “Both of you treat me like I’m this weak…nuisance. That I shouldn’t know what goes on in your lives in the same way you know about my life. We grew up together…practically raised together and attached to the hip…and what happens?” I looked at Mel. “My best friend keeps her mate a secret…rejects him, and doesn’t even give him the option to accept or reject while my other best friend” I turned and shoved my hand against Vic's chest harshly. “Ignored me for a whole f*****g year, leaving me worried and hurt and for what? To find out he couldn’t be bothered by humans during his Alpha training…as if that’s all I am” I look at two, my vision blurry as I tried to push the tears away. I growled annoyed as I stood up, dusting my clothes from the grass and dirt from being tackled.  “So excuse me for staying out of your way so you can handle things in your pack, without some weak human there to bring you down…following you two like a little puppy hoping for scraps from the two people I considered my family” I snapped the last part, rubbing my eyes furiously to push the tears back. I will not cry in front of them. They don’t deserve my tears!  “I get it…our parents were good friends…so this was an obligatory friendship by our parents. Now that we’re seventeen, our last year of high school, we can drop the charade. I ‘ll stay out of your lives from now on” I took a deep, composing myself as I looked at the two.  “Is that what you really think?” Mel questioned, looking at me angrily and hurt. “That our friendship was obligatory this whole time?” she stood up, facing me as her own eyes glistened with unshed tears. “You’re like a sister to me Lina”  “Some sister I am that you couldn’t even trust me to know about your mate” I snapped back. “I had no choice!” she shouted angrily, the tears running down her cheeks freely. I furrowed my brows at her, confused by her answer. “What do you mean you have no choice? You did and you chose to reject him” I answered back. Mel sighed, closing her eyes and pinching the bridge of her nose.  “Have you seen wolves mated to humans in our pack before?” she questioned. I opened my mouth to reply, but stopped myself. I thought back to the pack, trying to rack my brain to remember if I saw any, but I didn’t. How come? I looked at her confused, wondering where she was going with this. “Have you seen humans suddenly deciding to leave the town?” she continued.  “Yeah…some say they found jobs in other places or family emergencies” I commented. She chuckled bitterly, looking at the ground. “They were forced to leave Lina” I widened my eyes at her. “Why?” I demanded. She looked up at me and I saw so much emotion on her face it broke my heart.  “Because they were mated to wolves…my father would force the pack members to reject the humans, and if they refused, the humans would be bullied and force out of the pack grounds and out of the town” I shook my head in denial. “That’s not true! You dad has a great relationship with humans…he even allows us to live on the pack grounds” I countered. Victor stood up, placing his hand on Mel’s shoulder.  “He’s the one that imposed the rules Lina. He’ll just Alpha command them to obey, and pack members have no choice but to reject their human mates, and choose a wolf mate” he spoke. “Is that why you rejected Tommy?” I questioned Mel. She slowly nodded, wiping some of her tears away. “When I saw him on his birthday, I knew he was my mate. I couldn’t stop myself from whispering it, and I was afraid my father heard me, so I quickly ran to him and rejected him loud enough for my father to hear. It…stopped him from targeting Tommy and his family” my heart ached at her confession and I gently pulled her into a hug. She sobbed onto my shoulder, and I gently caressed the back of her head and back.  “You didn’t give him a chance to accept or reject? Why?” I asked softly as she pulled away. “This is our last year of school.” Victor answered instead. “Once we graduate, I’m eligible to take over as Alpha, as will be eighteen before then. If I can get the Alpha position, I can reverse all these laws my father imposed, and allow human and wolves to be with their fated mates without repercussion” this was a lot of information to take in at once. I looked at the two, seeing how they both were serious on this. "Which means, if Tommy doesn't fully accept your rejection...and a big IF he decides he wants to fight for you...once the laws are reversed, you can freely be together without repercussions" I commented.  “So why did you ignore me the whole year?” I asked Vic, not realizing the pain that was attached to those words before I could stop myself. I saw him swallow hard, his gaze never leaving my own. “I was sixteen Lina…he alpha commanded me to not contact you or any human during my training… I couldn’t fight it” I gasped, my hand covering my mouth in shock. Why was his father so cruel? What did humans ever do to him?
