Melissa stood motionless in the center of the room, staring at the dark wooden panels, at the gilded ceiling, the monstrous bed still laced in mockery with dry red chillies, and the man she had just married — a man who promised her not love or companionship, but torment. Her breath caught in her throat as Alec turned, locking the door from the inside. Click. The sound felt like the closing of a coffin. “I hope you enjoyed the little welcome,” Alec muttered darkly, sliding the bolt into place. “Because this… this is only the beginning, wife.” Melissa didn’t respond.
