I force myself to open the door pushing it ajar slightly after taking a deep breath to calm my nervous, my stomach in knots the feeling wrongness clawing at the back of my mind. Ricky is standing on the other side; he is smiling and in fresh clothes; he is good looking his hair was shining in the now lite hallway, the blond was almost white. He gives me a wicked smile, and it sent a weird chill down my spine. I don't think he intend it to be that way, but his eyes are making my subconscious scream danger.
"Ready?" He holds out his hand raising an eyebrow when I hesitate to take it, he takes my hand that was being held out halfway and locks our hands together. I look at our hands then back at his face he to have softened his features, but I wasn't finding anything in my memories of us together, a flash of a dark-haired person with honey brown eyes crosses my mind but I don't know who that person is. When I see him, a warm feeling start to generate inside my heart. I smile and Ricky thinks it's back at him and smiles wider as he shuts my door guiding me to the dining room. I look over the walls and paintings that are hanging. The paintings were stunning however the walls were not as clean or up on repairs so it the paintings look off like they did not belong here.
"So, how many other people are staying here?" I ask as we make our way down the hall hoping the information can spark some memories.
"Including you, seven. There's Jay and Sky the twins, Gabriel, me Rick." He looks at me with another smile but one that was more like I'm hot and I know it kind of smile. I feel my lip curve up a little forming a smirk. "Then there are the owners Nicolas and Elaven Ticheli the people I mentioned earlier." I nod trying to remember what they look like, but I can't picture them. I sigh my head hurting a bit.
"I remember a few things like we're magi and each person have a unique highness of a curtain element for example you and I are both able to control fire but that it not really what the others look like, or where we are, or my family." I look down at my feet as we go down some stairs, they squeaked under our weight some were in pretty bad shape. I look at Ricky and then back to the stairs, they were pristine, a beautiful dark brown wooden staircase that curves and outline the entryway. I blink my stomach drops; I start to question my vision.
"It'll be fine, everything will come back soon." Ricky gives me a small smile and a gentle squeeze to my hand for reassurance. I give him a weak smile back. We get to a door the voices beginning to get louder the closer we got I didn't notice the others in there until we were inches from the door. Ricky pushes it open and there are only four people around a large table covered in food, when we walk in everyone looks at us continuing their conversations. We take a seat then the man at the end of the table stands up with his glass takes a sip then placing it back down.
"I want to announce that even though Apheina has a little bit of a memory lost we are going to still train and study as usually nothing has change it will not be long until she gets them back." They all nod and start to eat. It was quiet during the meal only a few commits here and there. I look around and see that we were in a glass room outside was surrounded with trees and flowers. It was dark out.
"What time is it?" I whisper to Ricky.
"It's 4 am." The second those words came out of his mouth my eyes almost pop out of my head.
"Why so early?" I said a little loud, he just smiled, and the others looked over.
"It's always this time we have to do you'll remember when we get to the classes." I nod and keep eating. I continue to look around as I munch on a piece of toast. The walls that they did have are brown with stains of old wallpaper it's purple with an interesting design on them swirls of gold that looks faded. The doors were a bit too big if I say so for myself. The edges on the windows are covered in vines with lots of leaves. The pillars of each window are also colored with spots of old wallpaper here and there with the wood showing. I look around the table more the food is an overwhelming amount. There is also a wide variety of food my plate which was full by the time I finish picking. The others were not that chatty especially Ricky he keeps to himself I realize. I recognized the twins immediately with their matching black hair, brown-green eyes and perfect bone structure, Sky's hair is long but, in a ponytail, her poster is perfect like she's from royalty or something, where Jay has short hair, he also sat proper, and his jawline is stronger. With those to identified that left Gabriel who was not here. Then look at the adults and owners of the place Nicolas was an older man, tired clear on his face. His wife sat across from him at the other end of the table she was elegant looking with her eyes cold like she is a force to be reckoned with. Everyone at the table look as if they came out of a story book. I must look scared or something since I feel a tap on my shoulder I look to my left at the girl.
"So how are you feeling Aphei, you're not looking that great?" Sky asks after finishing her bacon strip. I gulp my orange juice down with a biscuit they tasted like sawdust in my mouth, but I swallow it down to respond,
"A lot better, thank you." I give a small smile the nickname felt familiar but sounds off coming from her voice. She nods believing the obvious lie and pops one of my bacon strips in her mouth,
"Well after breakfast we'll go back to your room and get you a better outfit." She smiles like she didn't just say something rude.
"Sky, really could have said that different, you're so rude." Jay says with a loud sigh. I smile,
"It's fine, doesn't bother me none." He just shrugs taking a bite from his sausage. The rest of the time was almost quiet with the exception of the schedule for the day being told.
"Alright girl let's go to your room." Sky says with a big smile pushing from the table and placing her napkin on her plate. She walks over to me I can clearly see her impressive height; she is a tall girl in her heels on top of that, those thighs looked like weapons. She is wearing a long skirt that got short in the front with ruffles on its back her top is oddly enough pink with black lace over top. To my surprise it was working very well on her. She comes up to my chair and pulls on my arm with a gentle tug lifting me from my spot. She gives me a friendly smile her energy was bubbly and intoxicating that I give her genuine smile back, but her eyes shouted crazy to me. She starts to walk to the door I look back at Ricky with an help me look but he just smiles with a shrug waving goodbye.
-two hours later-
"Finally done!" Sky huff with bride as she looks at me. We just spend two hours picking my clothes, take a quick shower so she could have an easier time doing my hair, which took longer than I thought but not as long as the makeup did, that she just finished. "Okay, look, look!" She squealed happily pulling me to the mirror, she has a bad habit of being in charge, I noted. I stand in front of the mirror and oh mi god! I can't even tell who I was looking at. My hair was in two fancy fishtail braids on either side of my head I wouldn't admit it to her, but they were f*cking tight, my makeup was a bit much for me but in her opinion worked on me. I had smoky brown eyes with a hint of red? in it, I don't even remember seeing red in my pallets. My lips were a gentle red with really amazing, contorted face to finish. My outfit concise of a long skirt, black with blood red fading at the end and a white and blue t-shirt that I wasn't really sure was mine since it looks so weird. The shirt is a tight fitting with blue lace on it almost looking identical to Sky's. Then there's the heels, they aren't as high as hers, but they are high enough to make me wonder how in the hell did I ever walk in them and yet when I got up and moved to the mirror it was effortless, a bit painful though.
"For the record Rick lied we don't always wake up at 4 it's only a once-a-month thing for meditation, any other day we'd save that for before lights out in our own rooms. Thanks, by the way I didn't have to go today because they thought it would be best for you to sit this one out. You know on a count you hurt your head." She says looking at bandage we had to work around that is on my forehead then she comes to stand behind me looking at the mirror messing with the hair a little bit more. "You look so amazing." She says proud clear in her voice then she spins around and looks at the clock on the wall. "s**t, we have to go class is about to start soon." I look and it's ten past six. She goes over to the edge of my bed and grabs a bag, and she hands it to me then takes my hand and links our arms together, 'We were close friends. She used to always call me Aphei.'
"We were best friends!" I exclaim happily as we walked down the hallway. She smiles big nodding as she says,
"Of course we are who else would let me do their makeup, Jay?" She and I laugh as we head down another hall.
"This place is huge! I think I might get lost." I laugh. She does too and we get to a door.
"Aright this is our first-class history. Elaven teaches it she may be one of beauty but don't fall asleep she's a monster when it comes to her classes." We get in and there are desks in a row. Sky goes and sits next to her brother, so I take the sit next to her. The others are already there sitting the row, Ricky gives me a smile, a devilish one. For a moment I think my heart skips a beat. My face turns a slight pink, so I turn my head, but he grins which tells me he saw. Seconds later Elaven walks in.
"Over a hundred years ago the king Vlemuim had a vision, a vision where we made the world a better place for our best interest..." AND that started the long class to the first long day. The next day was no better.
"Sooo, do you remember anything yet?" Ricky asks after our last class ends which happens to be practicing our magic. I nod with a smile.
"Yup, almost everything has come back." I remember that my parents leaving me when I was at a young age, Elaven had found me on the side of the street with nothing but the clothes I was wearing and a blanket. Her and Nicolas raised me. When I turned seven, they opened their home to our magi society to teach those with amazingly fast developed powers just like myself. There's only Sky, Jay and Ricky at first, we end up growing up together others have come and gone but I don't remember who they were. I remember that there was a lot of pictures of us when we were little but because of a fire I accidently start in my sleep one night we lost everything. We just finish the renovation about a month ago. The 4 am meditation actually started because of me and my night terrors. Gabriel came along about five years ago; he was a quiet one and never really got along with everyone. Sky and I became friends fast, she is very sweet but bossy but that's okay because that's just who she is, she's become very mature, and I think likes Gabriel. I'll have to ask her later. The only thing I can't remember is how I ended up with the memory lost or anything this past year and a half. I wouldn't tell anyone but the memories I have don't feel right they were muddy and gave my stomach an empty feeling.
"Don't worry it'll come back soon at least you remember the important things, right Bunny?" Ricky says nudging me a little. My face warms at my nickname he gave me when we were little. The four of us were running the big backyard and we saw a family of bunnies, there was one with brown fur and light brown eyes, Ricky ends up calling me a bunny because of the color matching and it just stuck. He's always been there for me.
"Right." I nod my head and look at the ground as we walk to the living room. The room was extremely spacious with a big couch and an even bigger tv.
"Well should we watch a movie." He chuckles as he sees my face. My eyes are wide and my mouth half open, I am completely shocked by how big the tv is. We get a movie started and the others come in.
"What 'cha watching?" Sky asked plopping on the other side of me while Jay takes an empty chair, and he stares at me for so long that I squirm in my spot. Ricky answers looking over at Jay I catch a glimpse of hostility in Ricky stare,
"Some horror movie called, Dark night last." She shrugs making a commit that horror movies just are scare these days, but she makes herself comfortable on the other couch anyways. She was right it wasn't scare the ending was predictable none of us were impressed, once it's finished, we all get up stretching Sky mutters, told y'all. I get an unsettling feeling from the back of my neck I look over at the doorway and I see the outline of that tall form of Gabriel, whenever we are in the same room he gives me an uneasy feeling and a ball of anger surfaces. I was staring out into the dark hallway when Jay turns the tv off. The sounds of heels on the hardwood floor indicates that Mrs. Ticheli was coming.
"Alright, lights out guys." She says as she walks into the living room. We starting to walk obedently to the stairs.
"Hey, let's have a sleepover in my room I'll show you some cool tricks." Sky says linking our arms together. I nod with a wide smile.
"Okay, let me just wash up and get a few things." She smiles back at me. She goes on ahead to get her room ready. Ricky who is still walking next to me puts his arm around my shoulders.
"I can help you get washed up if you want." He whispers in my ear sending chills down my spin but it wasn't unpleasant. I shake my head chuckling,
"You wish." I say moving his arm as we go up the stairs. We get to the platform of the stairs, and he pulls me close.
"Yes, I do, will you grant it." Jay and Gabriel who I didn't even see come up and around us grumble something as they passed, I push him away gently with rose red clear on my face. I let out a little 'ha'.
"No." I laugh a little more from the butterflies in my stomach, "I'm going to my room." Walking up the rest of the way of the staircase faster to get away from him to calm my racing heart. He comes up behind me wrapping his arms around me.
"Let me take you some place special." He hummed in my ear. Again, the shiver went down my spine a sense of feeling comfortable with him, his warmth was intoxicating, I nod not trusting my voice. He releases his arms from around my waist and opt to taking hold of my hand. He leads me down the hallway.
"Where are we going?" I ask. He touches his finger to his lips with a smile.
"You'll see." We get to some stairs at the end of the hall behind another big wooden door. It wasn't like those scary ones in old horror movies it was more like some fair tail secret passageway. My eyes widen in amazement lips slightly opens as I gasp in awe. I feel like I was teleported to the 1800's. He chuckles and continue up the stairs pulling me closely behind him. We practically ran up the stairs he opens another door, but this one was steel and a bit rusty from the years of weather. We step out on top of the tilted roof top on the north side of the house the tiles are still warm from the hot late summer weather I accepted the warm feeling of the sunlight into the soils of my feet, I took those stupid heels off hours ago I sigh closing my eyes for a brief moment. He takes my hand my eyes are wrapped open a feeling of ice hits my hand like the warmth I was receiving from the sun was being pulled from my inside to the other side of the roof I was about to pull my arm out of his reach but his grip tightens and we get to the spot I can see the full huge moon in the star filled sky. We sat down staring at the sky until sleep was falling heavy on my eyes and he takes me to Skys room.
"So, what do you think?" Sky finished playing with my hair before we start our classes, she hounded the whole night about what I was up to with Ricky. I decide to start to hang out with Sky a lot more after yesterday, I didn't not want to feel like that again. However, hanging out with Sky means having to hang out her brother Jay even though he hasn't talk to me much these last few days I keep feeling him staring at me. Him and Gabriel seem to be close, but he doesn't talk to me that much either and does his best to stay out of my eyesight as much as possible it was weird there was something about him that seems off.
"I like it." I said with a nod, she did a really pretty fishtail braid. I stand up and head to the door to find Ricky standing there ready to knock. I laugh stepping back away from him unintentionally.
"What are you doing?" I can hear Sky shuffling around. He looks me up and down.
"Well, you were taking a long time I thought I'd come see if she killed you." He laughs, Sky just scowls at him. "Let's go then." He smiles at me taking my hand he has to pull me lightly for me to start moving there was absent of warmth from his touch I pull my hand out of his and take Skys arm in mine they both give me a look and I ignore them as we get to the dining room.
"It's so hard to forget everything that's happened." Nicolas had ended his class, the last class for the day and he talked about the war like he was there.
"Is it possible to practically like, I don't know, live forever?" I ask Ricky as we get up to leave. He laughs a little honestly that was starting to get annoying, I ask a question to anyone and they either smile like I was asking something amusing or actually laugh at me like I'm an i***t. I frown wondering what was so funny and he notices and rubs my right arm since he has his arm around my neck as we walk around the ground. He didn't answer me till we were far from the others. He moved his arm and just held my hand, it is so warm, so soft. I almost groan out loud but catch myself before I let it out. I blush furiously so I try to act like I was looking at the beautiful garden around me avoiding his strong heat induced the intoxicating stare of his. He tugs on my hand softly, I unconsciously look at him, face still slightly pink. I face a full smexy smile man now, his smile widens and my heart flutters. He brushes his thumb over my cheek, by the curse of the gods my face beats bright red. 'Why am I such a dork!' I think to myself mentally facepalming.
"You're really adorable Bunny." He leans in, I suck in a breath not sure if I'm mentally ready for this.
'Apheina! Please, please be okay!' I bend forward my head feeling like it's about to explode the voice was so sad, so hurt, so angry, so worried it was like he was shouting in my ear or worst inside my head, and it hurt the pain on a different level that it feels like nails to the temple.
"Bunny? Are you okay?" I can hear Ricky, but it was like he was so far away and muffled. "Bunny?" I fall to my knee's tears falling not from the pain even though it hurts so much it was the pain from the voice that I could feel to the core so deep. The feeling of loneliness was so prone I think I can feel it myself. Tears one after another comes streaming down, my head rests on the ground the cool grass and darkness was all I can focus on other than the pain of the male voice in my head. I didn't even feel Ricky's hands wrap around me to lift me up and in his arms. I ball up baring my face into his chest wanting to not hear that voice that inconsolable voice anymore it hurt me to hear him so heartbroken.
"What happened?" It was another far away voice comes from further away.
"F*ck off were the old man?" Ricky said lots of anger could be heard.
"Not f*cking here. So...." Before the faraway voice spoke more Ricky asks,
"Lady Elena?"
"NO, so what the f*ck happened?" Ricky moves sharply to the right. "Rick, you prick give her to me!" The voice practically growled I now identify as Gabriel.
"No, why should I? She was supposed to get enough heat from the sun so we can transfer it, I can't do that with her passing out like this all the time." Ricky hissed back. Gabriel huffs and I feel a soft hand touch my head, almost immediately my tears stop falling and warmth like the plushest, softest pillow was the last thing I can remember before falling into a deep sleep.
