Dawn broke over unfamiliar mountains as the convoy of black SUVs wound through narrow forest roads. Mia sat beside Logan in the backseat, their bodies swaying together with each curve. His arm stretched across the seat behind her, not quite touching but close enough that she could feel his heat. "You should rest," he murmured, voice low enough that only she could hear. "So should you," she replied, taking in his exhausted face, still streaked with dried blood despite his attempts to clean up. In the driver's seat, Dr. Amara Chen remained silent, eyes fixed on the road. Unlike her sister Emma's warmth, Amara radiated cold efficiency. The four armed guards in the vehicles ahead and behind them added to Mia's unease. "Where exactly are you taking us?" Logan asked, not for the first time.
