Dexter's pov 

As we were driving back to the headquarters a thought occurred to me. “ Sarah? What if we speak to Mr. Easton about this? He is anyways coming in to deal with Ms. Riccs case.” “ No Chief. I don’t think it’s a good idea. Even though he seems innocent and did all the manipulation for Mr. George by his strict orders , he was very loyal. He is very loyal” she said correcting her statement. “ What if , by any chance Mr. Easton still works for Mr. George ? He might lead us the other way” she added. “Right” I replied by agreeing with her .

We reached the headquarters in silence and walked in. I felt like I should seriously only focus on Ms. Alonso’s case. But I really don’t understand what is left to do with that case. We have every piece of evidence we could collect . Did we miss anything ? Any spot? I took out a notebook as I sat down and started making points.

Pendant ! Yes, pendant. If the key was misleading us , then the pendant was put there on purpose. That means someone from the g**g pulled her necklace off her and threw it in that place and came back to the house and placed the key there.

“Sarah, call up Sameer and ask him if he has the key and the pendant with him . Now” I said and she immediately dialled him . “Yes Chief. He has both of them” she replied. “Give me the phone.” I said and took it from her. I walked to the corner of the room and said in a low voice. “ Sameer, listen. This must be very confidential. Check for all the fingerprints you can get on both of them, except for Ms. Alonso’s fingerprints. Check if both have same ones and check whose it is. If it turns out to be two different people check whose they are and are they related . I need their details. I need it by tomorrow morning. Make sure that no one gets to know about it. Not a single soul should even know that you were checking the fingerprints or even fiddling with the evidence. Got it ?” “Got it Chief. No one will get to know. I’ll do it once everyone’s left” he whispered and then hung up. I was relieved.

I handed Sarah back her phone. I sat back but didn’t write. My gut feeling said that this was the clue I was waiting for. This one will lead me somewhere. Sometimes it’s better to go by instincts than logic. I started going through all the information in my head.

I was so engrossed in the whole thinking process that I didn’t even hear Stella calling me until she shook me. “Chief I’ve been calling you but you didn’t respond” she said looking at my shocked expression. “Sorry, I was thinking about something. What is it?” I asked her. “ Ms. Kate called back. She said she’ll be able to meet us tomorrow. You need to give her a time” she said. “12 will do” I replied without even thinking and she nodded.

She called her back and informed her about the timing. She turned back and gave me a thumbs up. It was cute. I replied with a smile. Suddenly I felt like I was making a mistake by keeping her away, away from my life. I’ll finish this case somehow by the end of this week and then propose to her. She’s my life. I remember how terrible I felt when she was kidnapped on that day. I’ll never let anything of that sort to happen again. I’ll take good care of her and protect her at any cost. If anything would happen to her I will get to know about the danger beforehand.

Wait! ‘Get to know about the danger beforehand' I repeated the phrase again and again in my head. It felt familiar. Very familiar.

‘ Our suspicion was true Chief. Ms. Evelyn’s parents expected that she would get kidnapped.’

I remembered the words of Luna. Ms. Evelyn’s parents expected her kidnap because of her weird behaviour . What if Ms. Alonso’s boyfriend also experienced anything similar ? There are chances. But wouldn’t he mention that during the investigation? Ms. Evelyn’s parents also didn’t mention it. They may have considered it dangerous to tell us. “Stella ,arrange a meeting with Ms. Alonso’s boyfriend also” I said and went out of the room. All of this was messing up with my head. I badly needed a strong coffee .
