Dinner with the family went well. Dad was detached throughout but Esme’s warmth made up for his coldness.
My brother, Samuel who looked like Dad so much, slept throughout our entire dinner. I hardly noticed there was a baby strapped in a car seat and placed on a chair in one corner of the room, unbothered by the voices in the room.
The conversation was focused on Blake. Friya and Esme asked Blake about Napa and the hotel and expressed their interest in visiting at the nearest, and also they asked about his origin--how come they owned such vast lands in LA. Sometimes the queries sounded like he was being interrogated. I was worried that he would be offended but each time I looked at Blake he gave me an assurance that he was all right.
