It was my eighteenth birthday and I was very excited. I had spent the previous night unable to sleep, staring out at the big full moon, wondering what it was going to be like to shift. I couldn't wait. As I'd gazed out into the sky I'd noticed a large black wolf out in the shadows, staring up at me, and I'd known instinctively that it was King Julian. The wolf was too large and too regal to be anyone else's.
