*Sean's POV*
After I left Bell I rushed over to our car to see what's wrong. People in our pack have no need for dogs because we kind of are dogs, though it isn't entirely unheard of.
"What's wrong man?"
"Something's going on dude. Earlier I saw two half demons walking around campus like they were searching for something. I followed them for a little while and saw them meet up with a witch and not the kind that we usually associate with. I couldn't risk getting too close to them, so I could only hear little snippets of their conversation. It sounded like they're looking for someone that's mentioned in some sort of prophecy and they want to kill them before they're able to do any damage."
"What? I thought half demons were extremely rare and now we've seen three of them in this town? And what kind of prophecy are they talking about?"
"I don't know man, but I think we need to get home as fast as possible so we can talk about it with my dad."
"What makes you think that we should even interfere in this? Maybe we should just lay low. I mean what are the odds that this will even affect the werewolves?" I say as we hurry into our jeep and start driving to our pack's land.
"What affects one supernatural species usually affects the others as well. And no matter what they're up to, you should never try to mess with fate. Remember the story about the elf who tried to stop Hitler when he was young?"
Who could ever forget that story? The elves were always too cocky and arrogant for their own good. They were able to translate all the prophecies and after discovering who was supposed to form a hateful group called Nazis, they sent one of their warriors to kill him. Unfortunately, the younger sibling, Adolf, witnessed the entire thing. The elf who was sent was part human and greatly resembled his Jewish ancestors and even held their faith. That child became something far worse than what his older brother was prophesized to be and the elves never dared to interfere in fate's path ever again.
"Okay and since it's demons that are the ones interfering, the person they're looking for is probably someone who's supposed to do a lot of good in our future."
"Yeah and by the amount of panic they were expressing, it sounds like they're starting to cut it pretty close to the deadline. They sound so desperate that they might start getting sloppy in front of the humans."
"This is bad"
We drove the rest of the way in silence. As soon as we parked in front of the pack house, we ran straight into the alpha's office and told him. We spent the next several hours making a plan of how to stop these people and decided to send a couple other pack members to school with us while the elders consult with the witches to see if they can guess what prophecy they're trying to stop. The more we talk about the witch and demons walking around campus, the more uneasy I become for Bells. I'm sure she'll be fine since they probably wouldn't have any interest in a human, but it doesn't ease this pain I'm feeling in my stomach.
After eating supper with the pack, I leave for some privacy in the forest. I watch the clock on my phone and wait until it is exactly 7 o'clock before I press the call button. I only have to wait a couple rings before she answers with the most angelic voice.
"Hello" she answers like she's amused by something. Probably by the fact that I called at the exact time I said I would.
"Hey there, what're you doing?"
"I just got out of my class and am still walking across campus. Was the dog okay?" I sat there a little confused at first until I remembered the lie Tommy said earlier. I hate lying to her and I'll have to tell her the entire truth about everything soon.
"Oh the dog is fine" I said then quickly changed the subject. Soon we had been talking on the phone for three hours. I love asking her about her home life and hearing how humble she is when she briefly mentions all these great accomplishments she's already had. She tries to just brush a lot of it under the rug and I always have to be quick with intercepting her with more questions before she changes to a new topic. She was apparently involved in almost every activity her school offered except for theatre and every sports related activity, but I could tell her favorites were marching band and quiz bowl. It's so cute how much of a nerd she is and for some reason, I think it's the most attractive thing about her.
I tried to summarize my school experience as best I could, but I had to be careful with what I mentioned since over half my classes were werewolf related. I mostly stuck to stories about Tommy and I. Eventually I could hear the tiredness in her voice and didn't want to keep her from getting a full night's sleep. I wished her goodnight and told her I'd find her on campus tomorrow.
I sat outside for a little while longer before I got up to go back into the pack house for some sleep myself. I've been having some troubles sleeping lately. Usually when people mate, they move in together immediately because their bodies become dependent on each other and sleeping next to them provides a sort of supercharge.
As I walk into the pack house I see that several friendly witches have already arrived and started researching. A couple of them even brought their older children so they can gain training experience. I wave to Nelly who resides closest to our pack and who's mother is usually the one to help us with all of our needs. Nelly developed a healing affinity at a very young age for a witch and was often found working in our infirmary when she's needed or bored.
I continue on to my bedroom since I won't be of any help to them right now and my eyes are starting to droop from tiredness. I quickly get ready for bed and don't even bother with getting under the covers before I fall asleep.
