Chapter 9

1305 Words
*Annabelle's POV*     "I'm going down for breakfast, you want to go with?" I turn around while brushing my hair to find Haylee fully dressed, which is very unusual at this hour. She's been acting a little strange for the last couple days, almost like she's waiting for someone or something to show up.     "Sure, I was actually just about to go myself." I say and we head down stairs to the connected dining hall.     "So you were up on the phone pretty late last night"     "Yeah, I met this amazing guy on Friday. His name is Sean and no matter what I'm doing, I can't stop thinking about him. That creepy guy who was staring at us in the line at the club had cornered me in the alley and Sean rescued me. Then he found me at the tutoring center yesterday and hung out for a while. Most of it was just us sitting in a comfortable silence. Every time I look at him I just feel at peace and have this feeling like we belong together. I swear it feels like I just met my future husband. Am I crazy for developing such strong feelings about him this fast?" After I said all this, I realized that I way over shared and she probably isn't even interested. I look over at her and she has an understanding smirk on her face.     "Don't worry about it. My family has a sort of arranged marriage tradition, but instead of our parents choosing our spouses, our God does it instead."     "I didn't know you were religious"     "Well it's a different religion. We don't have a church or anything, we just spread the knowledge down our lines by our elders. It's kinda similar to the Native Americans, but we originated in Egypt and it's much more lax. Anyway, after we find our match made by our God, we often get married within the week."     "A week?! You could meet a guy and be tied to him for the rest of your life after just a week of knowing his name?"     "Yes, it's the way of our ancestors."     "What if you don't love him?"     "All matches always result in your best chance of love and happiness. Every couple is completely in love at first sight."      We eat in comfortable silence as I mull over what she said. It sounds completely insane to get married so fast after allegedly finding love at first sight. I never even believed in love at first sight, but after meeting Sean I'm starting to think it could be real. Would I be able to get married to Sean within a week though? I want to say no, but my gut is telling me that I'm going to be with him for the rest of my life, so it doesn't really matter if I marry him this week or a year from now. But if you're so sure that you're meant for each other, then what's the harm in waiting the full year to get married.      I look up from my thoughts and see Haylee looking at all the other students surrounding us like she's scoping out any possible danger. "Are you okay? You keep looking around us like you're waiting for a man with an axe to jump out and murder us all." I said in my usual blunt manner.     Haylee looks at me and bursts out laughing, "I'm sorry, just the way you said that is so funny" she says then continues on laughing for another minute or two. I just sit there a little confused as to why she thought it was that funny and waited until she got herself under control again before I pointed out that she never answered my question.     "I just have this weird feeling like I keep missing things that're really important. Every now and then I feel something great is supposed to happen and sometimes I have really bad feelings like I'm supposed to be stopping something bad."     "I had one of those feelings just before I met Sean at the club" I say and she instantly stills with a fork full of eggs halfway to her mouth and her eyes widen like she just had a realization that will change the lives of thousands of people. Her fork drops to her plate and her eyes drift back to me.      "Oh my god... she's done it"     "Who's done what?"     "Bastet"     "Who's that?"     "Bastet did it. My Goddess picked someone for me."     "Well hold on now, you don't know that for sure. You can't say that based on just what you're feeling. You haven't even met anyone yet."     "No all of the elders say you can sense them before you meet them. It's a sixth sense we have." She says as she starts looking around at everyone in the dining hall even more closely than before. I just let her and carry on with my breakfast. After a couple more bites I see Sean approaching us from behind Haylee. Today he's wearing a white V-neck and a dark pair of jeans that fit him perfectly. I almost drool as I watch him get closer to our table. He immediately slides into the chair next to mine and Tommy appears at the end of the table but freezes once he sees Haylee. Sean follows my line of sight and appears just as confused by their reaction as I am. We let the silence carry on for a little while until even I become too uncomfortable to bare it.     "Tommy, this is my roommate Haylee. Haylee, this is Sean's friend Tommy." I say as a way of breaking the ice. This entire situation is so weird. I know I don't have much experience with socializing, but I'm pretty sure people usually don't act this way when they meet someone new.     "Bells, I forgot to look for silverware when I was up there. Would you mind getting some for me?" Sean asks and I've never felt so grateful for an excuse to leave than I do right now. *Sean's POV*     After Bells was out of earshot we immediately said what was on everyone's mind.     "You're a child of Bast."     "And you're werewolves" she replied.     "And you're my mate" Tommy said in shock. Now that I didn't see coming. I don't think I've ever heard of a werewolf mating with a child of Bast. Though they live similar to us, we've always just kept a respectful distance from each other.     "Wait you're sure you guys are mates?"     "Yes you numbskull. A mate's bond is blatantly obvious to everyone, even Annabelle knows there's something between you two. Though I thought it was just foolish human love until I realized you were a werewolf." Wow this chick is really rude.      "Sorry, I've just never heard of a werewolf and child of Bastet mating before."      "I have" she says with a stillness in her voice, "and it didn't end well for the two."     Tommy immediately gets into protective mode and sits down next to her so he could grab her hand to calm her. "Don't worry, we're going to be fine. We'll just have to tell our families carefully and give them time to get used to the idea." he says and I can visibly see both of their bodies relax and slightly tilt towards each other from the contact.      Great, not only do I now have to tell Bell about werewolves, but now I also have to tell her about the plethora of other supernatural species out there as well. I was hoping to just ease them all onto her one by one as we crossed paths with them, but is seems almost every species can be found on this campus. Maybe I can have Haylee help break the news to her.
