*Sean's POV*
As I move around the club I can feel my inner wolf stir in excitement. I don't know why, but I have this sense that something big is going to happen and I can't tell if it's a good or bad thing. Or maybe it's a mix of both. I have my eyes peeled for any signs of danger to Tommy or myself and so far the only thing I've seen tonight is a lowlife with a faint scent of demon blood. This means one of his ancestors was a half demon and half human who then mixed with only humans for a couple generations before this guy came along or he's been cursed or signed a contract with a demon. There's no way to really tell without getting closer, but he isn't any danger to us. If anything he's probably just a human with horrible morals and will likely end up in jail at a young age. Seeing how he reacted to not being let into the club, I'd say he'll be put away sooner rather than later.
"I got us some wings in various flavors and a couple bottles of water"
I turn to see Tommy set all the food down with a smile that looks like he just won the lottery. After I look at the food I understand why. He ordered around 10 different flavors of wings, which meant that we had around 80 wings to eat. Werewolves have to eat more than humans do, but consuming this much was pushing it.
Suddenly another person shows up behind him and I see that it's Josh from our history class. "Hey Josh, are you going to help us eat all these wings?" I ask and immediately get a dirty look from Tommy as I offer some of his food. I smirk at him and look back at Josh. As I wait for an answer I realize that his eyes are unfocused and his head seems to loll from one side to the other ever so slightly. He must have alcohol stashed on him since there's no way the bouncers would have let him in if they knew he'd been drinking.
"Nah I'm good man." he replies as he takes in the large array of flavors in front of him. He looks back up and forms a slow smile as his thoughts go back to the reason he came over here. "There's a group of girls in the back corner over there" he says as he points an unsteady finger "and my group of friends isn't here yet, so I was wondering if you guys would like to come with us to even out the numbers a little bit"
Tommy and I share a look as we decided through our mind-link whether to join him or not. Coming here was supposed to give us an opportunity to experience a human life and we can't really do that if we keep to ourselves the whole time. However, werewolves in our pack are forbidden to date anyone who isn't their mate. Many years ago there used to be problems because people would become too attached to significant others and have babies with them only to find their true mate a year or two later. It became outlawed about 10 years back when the alpha's sister took her own life because her true mate wanted to stay with his family.
We decided to join them after we're done with a meal, but we will be wingmen only. We have no intentions in forming relationships with any of the girls in this group. We have to walk on the outskirts of the dance floor to get to their sitting area and I feel an unexplainable pull to the far side of the dance floor. I shake off the thought and put on my socializing smile, which is really just a slight upturn of the corners of my lips. Tommy was always the one who effortlessly made friends everywhere he went. He's just a charismatic guy with great listening skills and the power to make everyone feel heard. It's why I think he's going to be an even better alpha than his dad when the time comes. I on the other hand am more of a speak only when necessary type of person. I'm horrible with small talk and can't keep a pointless conversation going to save me life.
After a couple minutes of socializing I got tired of displaying my fake smile and simply nodded during certain parts of the conversation and let all the other guys do the talking. The girl who sat next to me ended up shifting her attention to another guy in the group after she realized she wasn't going to get anything out of me. Unfortunately Tommy had two girls attached to his hip and after one asked if he wanted to dance, the other one turned around and asked me as well so we could keep the numbers even.
I groaned internally at the prospect of socializing with yet another girl I don't want to get to know, but nodded my head anyway as we all got up for the dance floor. As we approach it, my inner wolf starts to vibrate with excitement and something else that I can't quite place. Nervousness maybe? Whatever it is, I don't like this feeling without knowing the cause of it. We start group dancing to a techno song, but I mostly just shift from one foot to the other with just a small amount of arm movement. I'm too busy looking for the source of this strange feeling to actually get into the dancing. From across the room I can hear the exit door open and a slight breeze enters as it does. As the breeze finally reaches me, I'm hit with a smell of a field of flowers after a rainy day. That same smell that I've been thinking about for the last two weeks but it's so much stronger than it's ever been.
I quickly send a mind-link to Tommy telling him where I'm going and head straight towards the exit door on the other side of the room.
*Annabelle's POV*
I'm frozen where I stand as I watch the creeper approach me like I'm his prey. I know I should be turning around and running back inside for help, but no matter how hard I try I can't move. My feet are literally stuck to the ground! I look down and realize that I can move my legs and bend my knees but it seems as if I stepped into a spot with cement glue because I can't lift up my feet. I start hyperventilating as all the horrible possible scenarios start to flash through my mind. r**e, k********g, s*x-trafficking, murder. I look around for possible weapons I could use, but there's nothing within reach and I'm starting to give up all hope as this guy keeps getting closer and closer.
When he gets close enough he reaches out to brush back strands of my hair and a wicked glint appears in his eyes. I lean back as far as I can without tipping over, but he just follows me. I can see his yellowing teeth and smell his putrid breath as he smiles and says "Hey there pretty lady, I'm John. What's your name?"
My feet still unable to move, everything starts to become blurry as tears start to form in my eyes. When I don't reply his face contorts with anger and he moves his hand to around my neck. I'm suddenly no longer stuck to the ground and he quickly presses me into the side of the building with his body. I lost all control and started sobbing on the spot and internally praying that I wasn't about to be r***d and murdered in an alley.
Suddenly I hear the door to the club open and a small amount of relief spreads through me knowing that someone is nearby and could save me. Before I know it, John is lifted into the air and thrown 30 feet away like he was a rag doll. In his place is the most handsome man I had ever laid eyes on. I saw his expression turn from annoyance to wonderment as he continued to stare at me with deep green eyes. He started getting taller and I didn't understand how until I felt his calloused hands grab onto my arms. Apparently my legs were starting to give and I was slowly sinking to the ground before he grabbed me. As he touched me I felt this tingling go from my arms to all through out my body until it finally landed in my heart. I could see that he was experiencing the same thing as me, but he seemed to be more excited about it, whereas I was more confused and terrified. A huge smile stretches across his face and all I can do is stare at him mesmerized by how gorgeous he is. His light brown hair is slightly covering his forehead and my fingers twitch with the need to run them through his hair.
I heard a clanging of metal against metal and saw that John had found a metal pipe by the dumpster and was quickly approaching us. The gorgeous man turned around and started fighting him off with his bare hands. After I got some distance from him, reality came crashing down on me. I was about to be r***d in an alley and was starting to feel strong feelings for someone I don't even know yet. I need to get out of here and fast. It looks like my savior is pummeling the other guy who has no chance of winning this fight. Being able to move my feet again, I raced to the door that leads into the club and found it locked. I started banging on it in hopes that someone will hear. A few seconds later a tall man with dark short hair and piercing blue eyes emerges from the doorway and gives me the strangest look. He then looks directly at the two men fighting behind me and ushers me inside. With a stern voice he says, "Go home now and let me handle this." The door is shut in my face before I can say anything else.
I run to find Haylee sitting at our table with our stuff. "We need to home right now!" I tell her. With one look at my face she can tell I'm serious and quickly grabs all of our stuff. We run to her car and drive to campus in silence. The entire drive back to our dorm I sat there processing what just happened and oddly wishing I was still next to the man who just saved my life.
