Chapter 13

*Sean's POV*     I realize that we weren't being very careful with hiding our werewolf world from Bell, but I didn't actually expect her to correctly guess our species. Everyone was preparing to break the news to her in the gentlest way possible. Humans usually have a really difficult time accepting that the supernatural world exists, however, Bell was able to connect the dots and realize what we were in less than 4 hours.      "How did you figure it out?" I asked her.      She turned towards me and explained, "I saw Alec transform from a wolf into a human and Derek just said that he was the Alpha of the pack which means that everyone else here should also be a werewolf."      A deep grumble comes from Alpha Derek, "Alec should've known to be more careful with humans around the house."     This isn't the first time Alec's done something reckless though. Alec is Tommy's younger brother and even though he is also the son of the Alpha, he doesn't have any responsibilities because he isn't the oldest. Personally, I think he's reckless in order to get more attention from his dad, but there is a streak of wild in him just like Tommy. They both feel a need to experience new things and go to new places. I'm sure Alec will be just as excited to start college as Tommy was when he graduates this year.     "We were going to tell you by the way. I guess Alec just beat us to the punch." I say a little sourly. I can't help but feel like a milestone in our relationship was just taken from me. I should've been the one to tell her about my being a werewolf. At the very least, I should've been there when she realized that werewolves existed. I don't think I can ever let her out of my sight again. I unconsciously wrap my arms around her a little tighter to make sure she doesn't go anywhere without me. "Us being werewolves doesn't freak you out at all?"     "No, I mean it took a bit of time to digest what was happening when I saw Alec transform, but he seems nice enough. And I just have this odd feeling that I can trust you no matter what you are. I also have the strangest feeling that I already knew there were other beings out there that aren't human. Do I sound crazy when I say that?"     "Well considering that you have dark hunter blood, I don't think you sound crazy at all. My name is Nelly by the and I'm a witch not a werewolf." Nelly says as she sets aside a book she found on the witch.     "Nelly and her mom live close to the pack and are good friends of ours." I tell her. I see Bell give her a little wave and am glad that she likes her.     "What do you mean when you say that I have dark hunter blood? What's a dark hunter?"     Nelly immediately gets up and starts digging through her satchel bag filled with all of her witch supplies. Finally she pulls out a compass and opens it up. "A witch had enchanted this compass to find anyone with dark hunter blood. When it gets near to one, it turns black." she says as she moves the compass from one person to the next before finally settling in front of Bell and the face of the compass turns pitch black. She then snaps it shut once she knows her point has been made.     "My mom said that the dark hunters are an extremely private race, so all we really know about them are from the stories passed down through the centuries. Dark hunters are as fast as vampires, as strong as werewolves, as intelligent as the children of Bastet, and as indestructible as an Ogre. It's said that the dark hunters have angel blood running through their veins and have been tasked to keep the supernatural world from taking over the world and exposing themselves to humans."     Tommy scoffs from across the room, "Nelly Ogres aren't real and even if they were, then the dark hunters aren't really that indestructible if they nearly went extinct."     "Ogres are real they just sleep for a long time and generally are covered by dirt and are often mistaken as hills. And like I said earlier, everything we know about dark hunters are just passed down through stories, so maybe a few of those qualities were slightly exaggerated. My mom has met a couple of them, but it's just been because they're looking for a specific herb or rare item. She's never actually fought one before, but she said they give off this aura that resembles steel. Tough and cold with the ability to do a lot of damage, but can also have a dual purpose of protection." After making her point to Tommy, she turns back to Bell.     "A long time ago they used to go on hunting expeditions and would kill any demons they found as well as any supernatural beings that were murdering humans. They would travel with their families and were a force to be reckoned with. One dark hunter alone could take down 5 werewolves single handed, a family could take down half an army. Eventually the demons became tired of running and began creating an army of their own underground. Their army didn't attack the hunters head on though. Instead they made humans do their dirty work for them. They would add a bit of poison in their meals at the tavern, burn down their hotel rooms, kidnap their children and set up a trap in the middle of a demon nest. The number of dark hunters started decreasing drastically to a point where they decided to start hiding and only complete a job when in dire need. When they do complete a job they're usually in and out so fast that most supernaturals are often skeptical on if they even exist. Most believe the demons killed them all, but a few of us witches run into them every 50 years or so."     "But I have none of those qualities. I'm definitely not athletic, I bruise easily and I definitely can't fight. I believe you when you say a distant ancestor of mine might've been a dark hunter, but their special abilities obviously weren't passed onto me." she says while shaking her head.     "Don't worry, I think your gene just hasn't been activated yet. We don't really know how they activate them because this secret isn't shared to anyone besides the dark hunters, but one of your parents might know."     "How will I know which parent it is? And it's not like I can just call them up and ask them over the phone."     "I guess we'll just have to go see them in person and we can have the compass tell us. I can use the compass since it'll always be black if it's in your hands," I say. The idea of meeting her parents and seeing where she grew up excites me. I wonder what her family's like. She doesn't really like to talk about them much, I'm not really sure why. She seems to still in my arms when I mention going to see her parents. Does she not want me to meet her parents?     "Okay, I guess we'll leave tomorrow morning. At least we have labor day this Monday, so we won't be missing any school if we get back late." She turns to me then says, "It's gonna be a long drive back" as if she's trying to dissuade me from coming with her. She was nearly kidnapped just 4 hours ago, there is no way I'm going to let her go anywhere without me ever again.      "I can drive if you want." I say as if I think the amount of driving time is what's really bothering her, though I know it's actually something else.
