The next day at noon, Evelyn arrived at Fabian's private estate.
She'd just called him minutes earlier, telling him there was something important they needed to talk about. Though Fabian's tone was cold as usual, not knowing what the issue was made him give her the address and grant her ten minutes.
Standing outside the villa, Evelyn bit her lip nervously, clutching an envelope with test results inside.
The butler opened the door, and she inhaled deeply before stepping inside. The spacious living room was empty—no sign of Fabian.
Instead, she saw the last person she ever wanted to see in her life: Gina.
Gina got up lazily from the leather sofa, straightened her messy sleepwear, and the kiss marks on her neck instantly caught Evelyn's eye.
"What are you doing here?" Evelyn asked, frowning.
"I live here with Fabian. Didn't you know, sis?"
Evelyn's heart sank. This was her little sister—someone she'd treasured since childhood.
It had been three years since the miscarriage. Was this Gina's way of getting revenge? Still holding a grudge?
Evelyn pressed her lips together. "Gina, I never sent anyone to kidnap you or take your baby. Yes, I loved Fabian, but I never wanted to hurt you. When I heard you two were getting married, I even bought a baby crib for you guys. You know that."
"I know," Gina replied with a sneer as she glanced at her. "Of course I know you weren't the one. But Fabian didn't. Jackson family was pressuring him to marry, and I couldn't have kids because of my fibroids. I wouldn't be accepted without an heir, so I set this whole thing up—and dragged you in with me."
"What did you say?" Evelyn's hand holding the envelope started shaking.
"You've always pitied me, haven't you? You probably thought you were being kind by not interfering when Fabian stayed in touch with me. That's adorable. But let's be real—who in their right mind would fall for someone like you?" she laughed, muffling it behind her hand like it was some in-joke.
That laugh hit Evelyn harder than a slap. So that's why Fabian hated her. Her own sister had orchestrated it all.
For three years, she'd carried that burden—being blamed for destroying a child and stealing a man.
Fine. If that's how it was, she'd show Fabian the truth. Let him see the real face of the woman he put on a pedestal.
Evelyn forced herself to stay composed. "Where's Fabian? Why isn't he here?"
"He's in the shower. Be out soon. What's the hurry? Planning to rat me out?"
"Damn right I am. I'm not carrying this blame forever. I'll wait."
"In your dreams." Gina instantly dropped her fake smile and walked up, pointing at the mirror in the corner. "Did you crawl out of a crypt or something? Look at you—gray skin, no curves, and that outfit? Girl, you're 27 but you look like someone's bitter aunt. What made you think Fabian would ever pick you over me? Must suck, huh—being the wife who got replaced."
With a disgusted scowl, she tugged at Evelyn's outdated outfit. Caught off guard, Evelyn watched as the envelope slipped from her hand. She quickly bent down to grab it—but Gina was faster.
"Give it back!" Evelyn shouted.
"What's got you so worked up?" Gina ripped open the envelope and unfolded the pregnancy report—then froze.
This b***h was pregnant. With Fabian's child.
A dark look crossed Gina's face as she stared coldly at Evelyn's belly.
She couldn't let that baby be born. She understood how it worked—if Evelyn had the child, that changed everything. Even if Fabian hated her now, a child could change his heart.
Without blinking, Gina hurled the report into the fireplace. The flames devoured every last piece as something unreadable flickered in her eyes.
