When he left the interrogation room, the guards escorted Alain to a new office and he was brought before an officer he hadn’t met before. The nameplate on the desk identified him as Colonel Rombolo, although the man didn’t bother introducing himself. Alain could read nothing but hostile, suspicious thoughts from this new questioner, and was immediately on his guard. I wonder what I’ve done to make him distrust me so much.
Rombolo was blunt. “Where did you hear about Project Cepheus?”
“Two days ago, I think, from Major Ofarda. He mentioned a list of code names and asked which ones I’d heard of before. Cepheus was on that list, but it was one I was unfamiliar with at the time. Is it important?”
