This volume presents the complete works of Jules Vernes (47 novels.) Jules Gabriel Verne (1828 – 1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. Verne's collaboration with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel led to the creation of the Voyages extraordinaires, a widely popular series of scrupulously researched adventure novels including Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873). Verne is generally considered a major literary author in France and most of Europe, where he has had a wide influence on the literary avant-garde and on surrealism. Verne has been the second most-translated author in the world since 1979, ranking between Agatha Christie and William Shakespeare. He has sometimes been called the "Father of Science Fiction", a title that has also been given to H. G. Wells, Mary Shelley, and Hugo Gernsback.

Jules Verne’s classic 1864 sci-fi novel tells the story of German professor Otto Lidenbrock who believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the centre of the Earth. He, his nephew Axel, and their guide Hans descend into the Icelandic volcano Snaefellsjökull, encountering many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, before eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy, at the Stromboli volcano. È appunto lui che decifrando i frammenti ritrovati, suppone che il naufragio sia avvenuto in Patagonia. Ed ancora quest"ultimo che durante il viaggio dà un’altra interpretazione ai documenti rinvenuti, e li fa dirigere verso l’Australia e nell"Oceano Pacifico. Dopo varie vicissitudini, quando ormai i nostri protagonisti hanno perso le speranze, accade l’imprevisto.

Vi si ritrovano pertanto alcuni personaggi dei due capitoli precedenti e allusioni alle vicende in essi narrate.

Les aventures extraordinaires d’un emblématique capitaine, héros romantique en quête d’un apaisement qu’il poursuit sans jamais l’atteindre Vingt mille lieues sous les mers est un roman d’aventures de Jules Verne, publié en 1870. Il est le sixième de la série des Voyages Extraordinaires ; il fait suite aux Enfants du capitaine Grant et se complète par l’Île mystérieuse. Un monstre marin de proportions gigantesques répand la terreur sur les océans. Une expédition lui donne la chasse à bord de la frégate américaine « Abraham Lincoln » ; le célèbre naturaliste français Aronnax et son fidèle domestique Conseil sont du voyage. La créature retrouvée, cette dernière attaque le navire. Sous le choc, Aronnax, Conseil et le harponneur Ned Land sont précipités à la mer. Refugiés sur le dos du monstre, ils découvrent avec stupeur qu’il s’agit d’un sous-marin, le « Nautilus ». Le capitaine Nemo, concepteur du submersible, les recueille et les retient prisonniers. En compagnie de cet énigmatique personnage, nos trois héros aperçoivent la mystérieuse Atlantide, se battent contre des cannibales et des poulpes géants, chassent dans les forêts sous-marines… jusqu’au jour où la farouche hostilité de Nemo à l’égard du commerce des hommes se fait jour avec la plus grande cruauté. Nemo leur dévoile alors sa véritable identité. Les trois passagers du Nautilus ne songent plus qu’à une chose : s’enfuir… Ce roman, un des meilleurs de Jules Verne, est d’une surprenante invention dramatique. La figure du capitaine Nemo, ingénieur de génie, homme de grande culture, qui sait faire preuve de sensibilité et de générosité, se révèle capable de tuer de sang-froid, de s’abandonner totalement à la haine qui le consume. En quelque sorte, comme l’Humanité, Nemo est capable du meilleur comme du pire, il n’est personne et tout le monde à la fois. Un grand roman à découvrir ou redécouvrir pour ses aventures légendaires EXTRAIT L’année 1866 fut marquée par un événement bizarre, un phénomène inexpliqué et inexplicable que personne n’a sans doute oublié. Sans parler des rumeurs qui agitaient les populations des ports et surexcitaient l’esprit public à l’intérieur des continents, les gens de mer furent particulièrement émus. Les négociants, armateurs, capitaines de navires, skippers et masters de l’Europe et de l’Amérique, officiers des marines militaires de tous pays, et, après eux, les gouvernements des divers États des deux continents, se préoccupèrent de ce fait au plus haut point. En effet, depuis quelque temps, plusieurs navires s’étaient rencontrés sur mer avec « une chose énorme, » un objet long, fusiforme, parfois phosphorescent, infiniment plus vaste et plus rapide qu’une baleine.
