"Rosie, you'd better get back. I still want to be here."
I shook my head. "Then I'd like to stay here too," I replied.
Jackson changed his position to sit, I followed him.
He looked me up and down which made me flinch. What is this man looking at?
Jackson suddenly took off his jacket and put it on my shoulders. "Wear this. The weather is cold right now, why are you wearing a dress this open, Rosie," he grumbled, making my heart warm.
"Charles must be looking for you, you should come back," he said.
I know that, but it's more exciting to be with Jackson with dozens of fireflies than it is to be with Charles with Samantha in his arms.
"Even though he was looking for me, there was still Samantha with him."
Jackson seemed to be smiling. "You are jealous?"
I shook my head quickly, "No!" I answered sounding curt.
"Your voice says it all, Rosie."
"Huh, you're right," I finally said and admitted it.
Jackson rubbed my head gently and said, "He hasn't realized something very important, Rosie."
"A thing? What is it?"
Jackson smiled gently. "That you are very precious," he said which made things around me feel all quiet and my heart was enveloped in an extraordinary warmth.
I smiled back. Jackson is the best, even he can make me feel special even without the word love.
I just hugged Jackson tightly and smiled into his chest. "You're the best Jackson, you're the second person I love besides David," I explained to him and the hug was warm.
Of course Jackson hugged me back, I think he kissed the top of my head too because it was warm there.
"Then I'll tell you a secret, which is that you are the first person I love," he explained and I hugged him tighter, glad that I was the first.
"Damn it!" said someone who made me look straight at him.
I removed my arms from Jackson and returned Charles' angry glare.
Charles seemed very angry because he was now looking at me and Jackson savagely.
Charles came towards us, and his hand just grabbed mine hard enough to make me wince in pain.
"Come here!"
I wriggle. Why every time there is a problem Charles always pushes me. I don't like it.
"Let go of Charles!"
Charles tightened his grip on his hand making me scream in pain.
"Why would I let you go? So you could be alone with him?!" asked Charles sarcastically.
Actually I don't want to start a fight but seeing Charles just like this makes me emotional.
"Yeah! I want to be alone with him, so get your damn hands off mine!"
"Damn woman!" he cursed.
"Yeah, I'm that damn woman you've been forcibly marrying, so take your holy hands off of a damn woman like me!"
Charles glared at me, his index finger pointed at me.
"You!" he growled holding back the anger that seemed to be about to explode.
Charles immediately threw my hand roughly. "Do what you want," he said and left us alone.
I was knocked to the ground as Charles was actually gone. Jackson lifted me to rise by holding my shoulders against the cloth we made the base for lying earlier.
"I destroyed it, I'm a fool!"
"No Rosie, you're not at fault. You're just doing what you should have done a long time ago."
I immediately hugged Jackson. I fell in love with Jackson, I know it's not true, but I can't deny the feeling, my heart feels squeezed when I see him with another woman.
I don't know since when these tears have flowed freely. I just can't contain my pain right now.
Jackson stroked the top of my head. "You're not wrong Rosie, a woman like you wasn't meant for a man like that. You'll find out in time," Jackson comforted me.
"Come on, let's get back to the party. We don't know what Charles is doing there."
I was about to wipe my tears with the back of my hand but Jackson held him back.
"Let me wipe your tears Rosie, so you know you're not alone," he said while wiping my tears.
"Come on, you're ugly when you cry," Jackson teased which made me smile.
Jackson looked at me strangely. "Why?" I asked.
He shook his head. "You're beautiful when you smile when you cry," he compliments and I can't help but smile.
"Don't tease me, let's go back," I said and stood up immediately.
Jackson during the trip held my hand tightly. It was warm, like David's hand and I missed my brother even more.
Needless to say, we're at the party now, looking for Charles or some commotion because Charles must be there.
But, this party seemed fine. Charles didn't appear either, and neither did Samantha.
Thinking of that, makes my heart ache. Surely Samantha is calming Charles down now . Well, that woman has Charles' heart completely, not me who incidentally is his wife.
"I'll find Charles, you wait here Rosie," Jackson said.
I nodded. Because the place where I was standing was passing by a lot, I moved a little towards a door which gradually became leaning.
There was a noise in the room. Out of curiosity, I sharpened my hearing and for some reason it felt like someone had said "Charles".
I suspect, are Samantha and Charles inside that door? My heart is beating fast.
My fingers were about to open the door but, someone called out to me.
"Rosie, what are you doing there?"
I turned and found Harnes looking at me with a questioning face. I approached him and tried to smile even though it was bitter.
"I'm looking for Charles, Harnes. Did you see him?" I asked.
Harnes then pointed to one of the doors. "Last time I saw her come in that door, Rosie."
"Oh, okay. Thanks Harnes," I said, not forgetting to give me a friendly smile.
Harnes waved his hand. "It's nothing, Rosie, I'm back to welcome guests first," he said goodbye and I nodded in response.
I'm still curious about the door but, Harnes doesn't seem to like me going inside. Hmm, I'd better go back to where I was before, who knows Jackson has found Charles.
I went back to where I was. My eyes don't stop roaming the whole place looking for Charles.
"Rosie," Jackson called from where I was leaning against the door earlier.
"Yes? You found it?" I asked.
Jackson shook his head. "No one saw it, I've been around," Jackson replied.
My eyes accidentally looked behind Jackson which was facing the door where I was leaning earlier.
The door opened and a man came out of it, followed by a woman. They intertwined their fingers.
A beautiful sight to behold but painful to feel.
"I don't think we need to look for them, Jackson," I hissed.
I smiled sadly. "Why don't you see for yourself, behind you," I said.
Jackson immediately turned his body and stared at the object that made my heart heat up all this time.
"They came out of the room?" Jackson asked trying to reassure himself.
My eyelids were filled with tears that were ready to fall at any moment. My heart was stabbed by something sharp, and it was very painful.
"We got them wrong Jackson," I mumbled and Jackson covered my eyes to see them.
"Don't look at Rosie, the more you look, the more your heart hurts."
"I know it's Jackson and unfortunately this heart has been bleeding for a long time," I replied, giving my weak smile and the tears that I had been holding back, finally came back.
"It's okay, I'm here," Jackson said and covered me with his body so no one could see me crying.
"I hate him Jackson, sob... hate him so much."
