Three days later, it was time for me to go. Josie was doing much better. Her energy was back, and her headaches came less frequently. She had a follow-up appointment with her doctor in a few days, and she insisted she would get released to go back to work. We both knew better, as it would take weeks for her to recover enough for that. But she was getting better and there was no more reason for me to stay. Zack and I hadn’t gotten much time together over the past few days—stolen kisses when no one was looking, holding hands under the table while we ate, and one time, while Josie was sleeping, he’d dragged me back to his place and f****d me hard against the front door. Being with him was amazing, and I would have to hold on to those memories to get me through the pain of leaving. Josie tea
