6 Couldn't Wait

Luciana POV I never expected to be excited about marrying Enzo Caruso, but as I stand here in the bridal shop with my mother and his, I am. Since our first date, we have spent time together every day of the last two weeks. I step out of the dressing room in the dress my mother picked. As I step up on the platform my eyes immediately go to my mother. Tears stream down her cheeks. I move my eyes to look at myself and fight back my own tears. The dress is a stunning A-line silhouette with delicate lace applicques. It has intricate beading on the bodice that makes it even more elegant. I have never looked more beautiful than I do at this moment. "You are so beautiful, my tesoro. Enzo is very lucky to call you his bride," my mother says. "I'm lucky too, mama. Enzo has been wonderful these last two weeks, and he is very handsome." "Your mother is right. My son is handsome, but you are gorgeous nuora (daughter-in-law). He is a very lucky boy. I am so happy you have accepted the betrothal, Luciana. Hopefully, Cecilia and I won't have to wait too long for you two to have bambinos for us to spoil," Maria says. I'm sure my cheeks are pink. Enzo and I haven't done anything besides kiss. He hasn't even tried to do anything not that he could with Jules and Herbito around. "What has your cheeks so flushed, sorella (sister)" Vivi asks with a smirk on her face. "Behave, Viviana" my mother says, but I can see she is fighting her smile. "We will take the dress and shoes. We will also need a long veil," my mother says to the store clerk. "When we get home, Luciana, you can go through my jewelry and pick out whatever you would like to wear for your wedding. It can be your something borrowed," my mother says, making me smile. She knows how my sisters and I have often used her very expensive jewelry for dress up as small children. "I have a blue pocket square that was Enzo's grandfather's. We can wrap it around your flowers for your something blue," Maria says. "Thank you, Mrs. Caruso." "We will have none of that. You call me Maria or mom if Cecilia doesn't mind," she says. "I am glad to share my beautiful daughter with you, Maria. I'm excited to have a son after all these years," my mother says, and I smile. "Well, I don't know about you ladies, but I'm starving. Should we head to my sister's restaurant for some lunch," Maria says. "Yes, please. That is where Enzo took me on our first date and the food was amazing." We finish with the store clerk and head out to the waiting car. Jules opens the door and I slide in first. As I look out the window, I notice a familiar car. Before I can think too much about it, my mother starts to talk, and I turn to answer her. As the car starts to pull away, I look back at the sports car just in time to see Enzo opening the door for a busty blonde woman to get in. When I turn back, I notice Maria looking in the same direction. When her eyes meet mine, I see a sadness in them. I'm not sure what I expected, but I guess he doesn't think he owes me loyalty until we say our vows. What if he thinks he doesn't owe me loyalty even after? I take a deep breath. "Luciana, is everything alright? You look troubled all of a sudden," my mother asks. I force a smile. "Everything is fine mama. Just thinking about everything we need to get done in two weeks." She grips my hand and squeezes it. "You don't worry about such things. Maria and I will make sure everything is taken care of," she says. I look at Maria and she nods, but something in her eyes tells me she isn't just talking about the wedding. When we reach the restaurant, my appetite has all but vanished. We step inside and the woman from the last time I was here gives me the fakest smile I've ever seen. "Mrs. Caruso, so good to see you again. Will you be sitting at your usual table," she asks. "Yes, Michelle, and please let my sister know we are here. She was excited to see her new niece again" Maria says. "Of course, follow me," she says through gritted teeth. Once we take our seat, Enzo's aunt practically runs out of the kitchen toward our table. The smile on her face is infectious as she rounds the table to pull me into a hug. "I'm so happy to see you again, Luciana. I thought for sure my nipote (nephew) would have had you running for the hills by now," she says, and everyone but me and Maria laughs. I keep the smile on my face. "Sit, sit, I will bring you all the food to share. I promise it will be delicious," she says. I retake my seat and look at Maria, whose expression is unreadable. It doesn't take long for the food to be brought to the table. It's more food than we will ever eat, but everything is truly delicious. Halfway through the meal, something has me looking toward the entrance of the restaurant. A rock forms in my stomach as I watch the hostess step towards us with a knowing smirk as she sits Enzo and the blonde from earlier a few tables away. My mother's gasp lets me know she has noticed, but I can't tear my eyes away as the blonde reaches over to rub Enzo's arm. My heart races as he takes her hand, lifting it to his lips. Before I can stop her, Marie is out of her seat and heading toward her son. I look back at my mother, who is looking back at me with sadness in her eyes. We both stand and head toward the front of the restaurant. I don't stop even when I hear Enzo say my name. My mother links her arm with mine offering me silent support. Herbito looks concerned about why we are leaving already, but he and Jules fall into step next to us as we step out of the restaurant. I'm just sliding into the car when the door bursts open. Enzo steps out, his eyes searching. "Luciana" he says as he starts moving toward the car. My mother slides in next to me and closes the door despite his pleading. Enzo POV As I open the door for Amelia, I get the sense I'm being watched. My eyes quickly sweep the parking lot of the boutique, but nothing seems out of place. I slide into the driver's seat and Amelia places her hand on my thigh like she has done a thousand times, but something about the gesture feels off today. Amelia and I have known each other since we were teenagers. We have been friends with benefits since we turned eighteen. I knew I needed a release, but I couldn't take the chance of using just anyone. Amelia would never betray me. I couldn't take the chance of Don Rizzo or Luciana finding out, so she was the best option. Her hand moving up my thigh brings me out of my thoughts. I put my hand over hers and pull it up to my lips. "Not yet, Lia. First, I'll take you for something to eat, because you are going to need your strength for what I have planned this afternoon." "Is the innocent princess keeping your balls blue, Enzo," she says. I bristle at her comment, not liking her talk about Luciana. I may not be thrilled about being married, but I find myself enjoying spending time with her. "Lia, don't talk about my bride or this will be over before it starts." "Sorry, Enzo, I didn't realize you actually cared about the girl. I thought you hated the idea of being forced into this marriage. Besides, I'm a little jealous she is taking my f**k buddy, but I won't say anymore about her if it upsets you," she says. I simply nod and focus on the drive to my aunt's restaurant. My aunt won't be suspicious of me dining with Amelia because I've done it many times. She knows I consider her a friend. I almost roll my eyes when I see the huge smile on Michelle's face when she looks between us. "Welcome back again, Mr. Caruso. Follow me" she says. I place my hand on the small of Amelia's back and lead her to the table that is tucked in the corner of the room. Again, I get the feeling of being watched. I know my men are on alert, so I focus my attention on Amelia. I'm just about to ask her what she wants to eat when I notice my mother barreling toward us. F**k I say under my breath as I stand. "You stronzo. I have never felt so ashamed in all my life of you, Enzo Caruso, until this moment. What are you thinking about bringing this puttana here while your bride sits not twenty feet away," she says loud enough that all eyes are now on us. "I am no puttana. You know that, Marie," Amelia says. The sound of flesh on flesh pulls my attention back to my mother. "Do you think I don't know what you do with my son under the guise of friendship? You are as bad as the women he uses like a revolving door. That makes you a puttana," she says. I motion to one of my men to remove Amelia. I step around my mother and take off toward the door. "Luciana, stop" I say as she pushes the door open. Men in suits surround her and her mother as they make their way toward a waiting car. I push the door open in time to see her slide into the car, followed by her mother. "Luciana, it's not what you think" I say as I stride toward the car. The two guards block me from getting close to the door. "Move, or I'll put a bullet in your head. That is my fiancé." "I wish you would try. Give me a reason to free our principessa from marrying a piece of sh*t like you. Then again, after today it probably won't happen anyway," the older man says with a smug smile on his face. "Enzo, what is happening," Amelia calls out from behind me. I turn in time to see my man stuffing her in a car and my mother rushing toward me. She doesn't stop when she reaches me. She passes the guards and opens the car door. She turns back to look at me with disappointment in her eyes. "Go home, Enzo. Your father will want to speak to you" she says before she slides inside. The guards get into the vehicle, and it pulls away, leaving me alone in the parking lot and f**ked.
