Serenya’s POV I was dreaming of something, but I can’t remember what. But then came the knock. Three soft taps. Polite, but firm. My eyes snapped open. Dawn light hadn’t even fully spilled across the ceiling. I rubbed the sleep from my face and rolled over, blinking at the faint glow behind my curtains. My body screamed to ignore it, but the knock came again. “Ma’am,” a voice whispered from the hallway. “Madam Adira requests your presence in the kitchen.” I sat up slowly, disoriented. Kitchen? “For what?” I croaked, voice scratchy from sleep. “She didn’t say.” Of course she didn’t. I dressed in silence, dragging on a robe over a simple cotton top and leggings.
