Serenya’s POV The shrill ping of my phone jolted me out of uneasy sleep. My head throbbed, a dull, relentless ache right behind my eyes. Sunlight streamed through the gap in the heavy curtains, blinding and unwelcomed. I groaned, dragging the blanket over my head, but the pings kept coming. Message after message. What now…? I fumbled for the phone, heart sinking as the lock screen filled my vision. 21 new messages. 5 missed calls. The group chat from work was blowing up. AnchorBoss: Where are you?? We’re short-staffed, need you on deck today. AnchorBoss: Serenya this isn’t the first time. Call me NOW. AnchorBoss: If you’re not here in 30 I’ll have to escalate this.
