THE SEVEN SINS

1003 Words
The Seven Sins are the most powerful demons, after Lucifer, to ever exist. Feared by all and wielding unbelievable power, they can wreak havoc without even meaning to. Hence, they mostly remain in their strongholds and barely ever step out to grace the outside world with their presence. They are Pride, Lust, Greed, Wrath, Envy, Sloth, and Gluttony. With the passage of time, death, and evolution, they have become mere myths and fairy tales. Most of the individuals present at the time of Precedence, when the Sins still traversed all realms, are either dead or too senile to be of any help. Apart from a few forgotten libraries and some songs in Ter Sami- an extinct generic language of supernatural beings- the Seven Sins remain mostly unknown. To give off the impression of immortality, the heir takes on their name upon ascending the throne. So if the heir of a Sin ascends the throne, his or her True Soul merges with the Sin’s true essence and becomes the Sin itself. That is why it is said that a Sin never dies- because they literally never do. They live on in their offspring. The realms of Hell may be a place of pure chaos, but some rules still remain firmly in place, irrespective of circumstances. One of such rules is the Rule of Absolute Ascension, which states that only the heir of a Sin- with the appropriate bloodline and blessing, of course- who has received the Sin’s acknowledgment can ascend the throne of that Sin. This rule creates a modicum of order in the affairs of the Sins and their respective offspring, putting a form of checks and balances on them. Lust, however, is an exceptional case. Known for his promiscuous ways and his penchant for indiscriminate and unprotected s*x, it is no surprise that he has so many offspring. It is said that after he tired of his fellow demons, he spread his tentacles across all realms- both mortal and supernatural. According to him, variety is the spice of life. When a 24-year-old Melanie Spears met Lust, she fell for him immediately. It would’ve been a surprise if she was not entranced by his looks- even beings with stronger defenses had fallen prey to his charm. Honing his charisma to terrifying heights made him capable of seducing almost any being without as much as a single thought- his presence alone is seduction in its absolute form. Melanie Spears was a famous supermodel, highly sought after by every magazine, fashion brand, variety show and clothiers- in fact, everyone who needed a beautiful face clamored for her. Her success rate was such that a picture of her advertising a particular brand would move that brand to higher levels of exposure, sales, and subsequent expansion. She was on her way to a variety show when her car developed a fault. The Aston Martin had just returned from the mechanic after periodic servicing a night prior. In theory, the car should’ve been raring to go, but the reality is a different story entirely. Lust stopped by, portraying the perfect picture of a cliché rich billionaire playboy saving a damsel in distress. Unable to recognize danger, she accepted his offer to give her a ride. This was the beginning of her end and the end of her sweet beginning. Several years later, she’d rue this day, but it’d be too late by then. Before dropping her off at the venue of the variety show, they’d managed to exchange numbers and do everything but have s*x. The s****l tension in the car was so thick that one could cut through it with a knife. Anyone would frown upon getting cozy with a person you recently met, but those societal norms don’t apply to Lust. As far he is concerned, the earlier, the better. One thing led to another, and soon, the world’s model- that was her title back then- and the world’s most eligible bachelor, Lascivus Läwst, became a ‘thing’. Brandon Läwst thinks that his mother is one of the most stupid people he has ever known- and he has known a lot of people. How else would you describe a woman who decides to date a man whose name alone speaks of lewdness and all things unholy? How many coincidences need to happen to make you connect the dots? The relationship between Lascivus and Melanie was a hot topic for several months. Tabloids, newspapers, media houses, and every news outlet scoured for the latest information about the duo and strove to be the first to report it. And there was never a shortage of news- you only had to know where to look. If there is one thing Lust is famous for, it’s being the cynosure of eyes at every point in time. Since the rules of the mortal realm prevent him from using his powers against humans, except for the protection of demon kin, he prefers to occupy apex positions. The seat of power allows him to exercise dominance without getting his hands dirty. They were in love, or so everyone thought. Sex creates a connection between the individuals involved. Even if no there are no strings attached, there is a psychological interaction that occurs at a higher level than the mere skin against skin. For demons and other beings of the supernatural world, it is much more powerful. The stronger the being, the stronger the connection formed. Thus, one can imagine the strength of the connection between a mere human and a Sin. The human is unable to bear the cost of such connection- the person’s mind will inadvertently collapse due to the sheer strain of maintaining such connection. No matter who it is, a void is created that can only be filled by a being of equal or greater power. Such humans can never be sexually satisfied by any human ever again. And the unstable psychological connection affects them negatively, making them crave for such intimacy as an addict craves for his favorite drug.
