14. A Dinner Fiasco

1918 Words
Zack I was looking out of the window before going downstairs for dinner, repeating the prophecy I grew up listening to almost like a prayer, “A wolf made of night, Shall raise from the blood and fire in the darkest hour. Shall reign through all white lands as a king and knight, Eternal will be his power.” I was born and raised to fulfill this prophecy. Sacrifices were made, the blood and fire were drawn and lit on my birthday night to make these words come true. It was working, after she was killed my father made our pack better, defeated many enemies and made our borders strong. I, too, improved this pack greatly as soon as I ascended as the Alpha, at the tender age of fifteen. Everything was working well, until the moment I sniffed her scent for the first time. My eyes looked away, I exhaled sharply and took a gulp of vodka, “I have to fulfill the prophecy, I shall never fall.” I told myself out loud, but it didn't matter how many times I tried to convince myself, Iris was thedistraction I couldn’t and didn’t want to get rid of. She was a white wolf, she was supposed to make this pack and my bloodline stronger, and not to drive me mad like she was doing. I slammed the empty vodka glass on my wooden table, shattering it into pieces. Suddenly, my wolf said something I never expected from him, “Dive in the madness, bury your d.ick deep inside of her, this way you will be sober and sound again.” I didn’t know if that was the answer, but I knew that I had to have her. I had to have her close to me, find a way to make her forget about this cursed deal. Curses, that was all my life seemed to be l about: The mate bond was a curse; She didn’t seem to be able to feel the bond, which was another curse; And the third and hugest curse was Iris herself— I couldn’t get her out of my mind, out of my system. So, I might as well dive in, sink in. If the prophecy was true, I would rise before I fall. ~ * ~ Iris The table was beautifully decorated and filled with lots of food. Susan really managed to make it a feast, I had to give her that. But everyone in the dinner still seemed cold and distant towards each other, no matter how good things looked. It was all about appearances, this thought popped into my head. Alpha Zack caressed my arm and I felt the warmth of his callous hand on my skin. This wasn’t about appearances, surely he didn’t want to come across as a caring mate, it wasn’t his style, which only confused me to no end. I tried to keep a straight face as Susan and the Beta started eating their laxative-filled food, which was hard especially because the Alpha insisted on having me on his lap during the whole dinner. What was happening with him? He almost seemed like a very—even extremely —loving mate now. The dinner was even more awkward because of the absolute silence between us. Susan and her mate only exchanged a few words and hardly talked to Zack or me. On top of everything, I felt quite uncomfortable because of the weird glances the Beta couple directed our way when they thought Zack was too distracted eating his food. It must have been weird to see the Alpha being affectionate and gentle to someone, but they should at least have tried to be polite. Well, it wasn’t their strongest suit. They also weren’t that discrete, Alpha Zack caught all their glances and shot them seething looks and a few growls from time to time. “I hope you are enjoying your Reindeer steak! It’s very fresh and rare, bleeding, just as you like it.” Susan’s kiss-ass smile made my stomach churn. The Alpha only nodded in response, causing me to have to hold back another laugh. I didn’t want to be petty, but Susan was making it hard for me. I sipped my herbal tea, only hoping that this dinner would be over soon and I could return to the room. “While the Betas pay a long visit to the toilet!” Sapphire barked a laugh in my mind. I swallowed hard as Alpha Zack put a spoonful of mashed potatoes—with a special laxative spicy—on his dish. The forkful of laxative-food was making its way to his mouth, almost in slow motion, and I was about to stop him and come up with an excuse, when the white-furred little Devil chanted in my mind, “A bit of diarrhea serves him right after all the slaps.” Sapphire was right, I could intervene after a forkful of it, right? It wasn’t that bad and he had it coming. But after he ate it, I decided to intervene, mind-linking him the first words that came to my mind, “Alpha… I am feeling weird, a bit warm, hot. Can you please take me to the room?” He looked at me somewhat satisfied and grinning , “Yes, let’s go.” He scooped me up in his arms before I could even react and left the dining room after nodding to the Beta and to Susan. “Alpha, I made dessert…” she tried to say, but Zack didn’t even acknowledge her words. With the corner of my eyes, I saw the Beta running away from the table as if his chair was on fire. Sapphire laughed in my mind, rolling onto her back like a naughty pup. Oh, my wolf was definitely a bad influence and I loved it. Alpha Zack almost ran up the stairs and placed me on the bed in no time. I sat up and he stood between my legs, nibbling at my bottom lip before taking my blue pullover and my t-shirt off quickly and urgently, having me half-bare for him. “Humm… I... Why do we have to mate? I am already pregnant,” I muttered, looking intently at him. A huff of frustration left his lips, and he took his t-shirt off, exposing his never ending-muscles, “Wasn’t that what you wanted?” He turned around and stripped completely and when his eyes were on mine once again, they had their normal cold edge, “According to our deal I can have you until you birth my heir. So, you should observe your part and I will honor mine,” he said gruffly. Looking at the distance, I breathed deeply. Was I foolish? Why did I want him to say that he wanted to mate with me because he wanted me? Because he liked me? “He isn’t your mate, Iris, he is the infamous and ruthless Alpha, the one who slapped you. You are too smart to develop Stockholm Syndrome.” I gave myself this reality-check talk. “You are right,” my wolf howled sadly, “Even though I think you are going crazy and have started talking to yourself while you have your amazing wolf to talk to instead,” she added with a laugh. “Strip, Iris,” he murmured, his voice dry but deep with desire. I did what he said and took my position, on my hands and knees. His hands roamed from my waist to the back of my thighs and brushed his shaft against my s*x, he was about to enter me when he suddenly groaned and went to the toilet instead. I lay on the bed and giggled a little, like a pup. Sometimes payback comes in a very unexpected way. I heard the noise of the water falling and it lulled me to sleep. Before I dozed off completely, his arms were around me and his lips brushed against my temple. I snuggled in his arms, almost feeling bad for him. ~ * ~ A couple of weeks passed and the Alpha kept surprising me with his better side, wrapping me in his arms after we mated and even giving me sweet kisses. Was he changing, for the baby? For me? These questions kept replaying in my head. “He is falling for us,” Sapphire sighed in my mind, making me laugh. “Are all white wolves as self-confident as you or was I just lucky to get you?” I picked on her as I beat the eggs and sugar. I was baking a cake for the pack’s pups, it was the first school day for the little ones and I wanted them to have something special, Alaska Baked, a regional favorite, made with sponge cake, ice cream and meringue. One of the only memories I have of my mom was her making it. She would always smell like this cake for me, maybe that was why I loved baking so much, it made me feel closer to her and bring these sweet memories to life. “You got lucky!” Sapphire barked a giggle. “If you come close to my man again, I will tell the Alpha the w***e you are and he will kill you on the spot.” Lisa’s yelling snapped me back from my thoughts and I walked around the kitchen counter and looked intently at her, narrowing my eyes. Being this close to her wasn’t such a good idea, her sweet perfume was making my stomach queasy. What in the Moon Goddess sake was happening? Why was Colton’s girlfriend threatening me out of the blue? “What are you even talking about?” I asked, beyond confused as I took off my apron. Luckily, the sponge cake was already in the oven; otherwise, she would’ve gotten a glimpse of my hormonal fury. “Don’t pretend that you don’t know what I am talking about. Since the day you first shifted, my man’s been after you like a lost pup. That’s your game, seduce the ranked wolves and climb your way to the top by opening your legs to them!” she exclaimed, her eyes gleaming in raw fury. Zita must be right, there was something happening between the two of them, but no way could she put the blame on me. Colton was only the annoying new Gamma who turned out to be an unexpected great friend, a big brother to me, right? I shook my head, “You are insane, Lisa! There is nothing between Colton and me, and I have nothing to do with your relationship problem. If you start spreading lies, you‘ll get Colton into trouble too, so much for caring about ‘your man’. Besides that, the Alpha won’t believe you.” An inward sigh left my lips. When I thought I had enough on my plate I got Colt’s jealous girlfriend threatening me. How couldn’t she see that Colton only liked me as a sister? “Do you wanna bet? The doubt will be enough to make your back as scored as a kitchen board,” she told me, placing her hands on her hips and raising a brow. The strong scent of frost and dry pine entered my nostrils and before I could even blink the Alpha was behind me. I could feel the heat radiating from his body in waves of anger.
