The rain lashed the living room window and the wild August wind rattled the panels of the house. It was one in the afternoon, but already dark outside, and I couldn’t have been happier about the weather. There was nothing to do and nowhere to go. On the couch, I lay in Hank’s arms, with my head on his bare shoulder and my leg curled over his stomach. There was barely enough room for both of us on the couch and that was fine with me. Hank was playing with my hair, being quiet as usual, breathing slow and deep against my cheek. Naked, we shared the warmth of a quilt.
