Chapter Seven

SKYLAR "Where is she?" I demanded as I turned to look at the creature behind me. The person standing before me was no longer Blair, instead she was replaced by a pale, tall woman with dark, blood-red hair, just like Melissa had described. "Oops, you got me," she said with a malicious smile and haunting black eyes that examined me from head to toe, as soon as she spoke, the lights in the manor lit up and I could see my surroundings more clearly. I tried to find some trace of Blair but wasn't successful, instead I saw Melissa wasn't where she was laying before. "I'm Dalia by the way, I don't think we have officially met," she said, getting my attention, as she extended her hand towards me. I made no move to shake her hand, "I know, let's cut to the chase and how about you tell me where my partner is." Her smile disappeared, and her face seemed to turn angrier by my attitude. "She's in no harm, child, and no harm will come to her as long as you cooperate, are we clear?" she asked as she lowered her hand and began to circle me. I didn't respond but waited for her to continue. "Anastasia Drew, once a normal, mundane human and then a threat to all supernatural species, perhaps the greatest." "That's not quite accurate," I responded coldly, "I'm just in charge of keeping in check creatures that fall out of line, like you." Dalia laughed and her laughed echoed around the manor. "You really are a humorous huntress, really, I have never met one like you, child," she said, and I only pointed my gun at her from my right hand that was resting on my side. "I'm a thousand year-old creature, I have seen far bigger hunters than you, I saw the first cities as they were being built and I met Devion and the rest of the Royale Brothers long before people knew of our existence, you are nothing compared to me," when she stopped talking, all of my weapons were on the ground, along with my gadgets and vest. In a second, they turned into dust. "See that? I didn't have to wave a finger to do all that," she said with a smug smile and a satisfied look on her face. For a minute I hesitated but I remained clam. "This is the last time I'm going to ask you witch, where is my partner?" I said more confidently than I felt. Dalia rolled her eyes and sighed. "You'll see her soon enough, I like to keep my trophies for some time before I... dispose of them," she disappeared, and I turned around, trying to find some clue of where she'd hidden. "I'm right here," she whispered behind me before she grabbed my ponytail, knocked me down and started dragging me across the room. I grunted and reached for her hand to push her away, I managed to scratch her hand and I heard her hiss in frustration before she tied my hands behind me. I kicked and tried to roll to free myself from her grasp, but it was useless. We reached what looked like a heavy metallic double door and she opened it without loosening her grip on me or moving her hands. Then with brute force she pushed me inside and I quickly got up and ran towards the door. Dalia managed to close it just as my shoulder collided with it and I fell to the ground as my shoulder soared with pain. I grunted, that hit was probably going to leave a bruise. "Don't try anything foolish, Anastasia. Yes, the Royale Brothers hired me to kill you and they offered me something I desperately want so I was no fool to neglect the opportunity," she said from the other side of the closed doors. She laughed coldly before continuing, "Oh poor Anastasia, her own beloved has left her to die alone at the hands of his new partner." I clenched my teeth together, my shoulder was still throbbing and in pain, but I managed to speak up, "what are you talking about?" "Ethan Royale, your beloved, don't act all surprised you know it is the truth and when Devion completes his plan I will become Ethan's Queen and I will be the most powerful creature in the world for it is I that created the first vampire, for it is I who Devion owes his life to." I smiled and rolled my eyes, "so that's it, that's what you want to obtain from all this? Pathetic." The witch stayed silent for minute and I imagined she was angry because of my attitude. "I have a bigger motive," she said quietly and then she stepped away and I heard her murmur before she was gone and the rope around my hands disappeared. I sighed and looked up at the ceiling trying to find some kind of exit. I got up and paced around, I also knocked on the walls to find where it was hollow. Nothing. The room had been exactly planned to be a prison. The door only opened from the outside and inside there was only an open bathroom and two individual beds. I considered trying to kick the door to get Dalia's attention, but I still didn't have a plan. "It's useless, I've already tried it," I heard a calm, cold voice coming from a dark corner. "Blair," I said surprised and I tensed. "How long have you been in here?" Blair got up and stepped into the light coming from a very small light bulb. "Long enough to discover your dirty little secret," she said accusingly as she reached me and crossed her arms in front of her. She looked at me, she looked angry, hurt and bewildered. "You really are something Sky, you're not a typical human, trouble does actually follow you." I sighed, defeated, "Blair, I wanted to tell you, I really did, and I was about to tell you back at the restaurant but I couldn't say anything in front of Melissa. I didn't know how much she or the witch knew." Blair shook her head and turned away for a second. "Anastasia Drew, beloved of one of the Royale Brothers. You know that you swear an oath as a Huntress, right?" she asked turning back to face me. I nodded, "and I plan on keeping it, all I want is to save my sister." "Even if that means killing your beloved, your true love?" she asked confused and shocked. I didn't hesitate, I responded truthfully, "even then. I don't believe true love causes you suffering and pain, if he really were my beloved he wouldn't have done the things he did and if we stop the Royale Brothers, I must do what I must. I am not a vampire; his death won’t kill my humanity." Blair sighed and sat down on one of the beds. "Well I disagree, I don't believe love is perfect, not even true love, but those imperfections make it worth living, make it exciting and new. If I had mate or beloved, a soul mate, I wouldn't hesitate to leave it all behind. I've had enough of Hunters. And maybe you’re right, you won’t be affected by the separation, but you’ll be wasting something that destiny has given you." I was shocked, Blair barely spoke of her feelings, let alone love. She must have really felt that way if she spoke her mind, but I refused to believe Ethan and I could have been something more. I wouldn't be able to be with a murderer, a monster. We stayed in complete silence and I also sat down on the other bed across Blair's. Then I felt as a stray hair loosened from its place. Frustrated, I pulled it back and placed the bob pin to hold it in place. A few minutes later I felt the bob pin fall and the stray hairs fell back to my face. I sighed and picked up the bob pin from the ground and was about to place it back into place and then I remembered. "Blair, I think I know how to get out of here," I said excitedly, and she looked at me surprised and expectantly.
