I woke up the next morning to the smell of pancakes and coffee. The sunlight was streaming through the big windows of the master bedroom and l laid there for a moment, just breathing. My ribs still hurt, but the pain felt manageable now. I looked at the pillow next to me. It was empty, but I could still feel the warmth where Luca’s body was.
