Amber was covered in her blood. She could feel the warmth of it and it brought tears to her eyes. But the sob rocking her body was silent and devastating.
They'd gotten the call too late, and as she and Faye stood not too far from the blast zone, Amber could do nothing as Faye was blown to hell. Nothing but cry and scream and watch her fall to her death in the court yard. Now sitting beside the dead human girl who had stolen her heart so effortlessly, Amber felt numb.
When a black kitten streaked over to her, Amber didn’t look up as it began to grow in size and the black fur became silky white flesh. Cassie looked at Amber sadly and down at Faye broken for her friend, “We can’t stay here Amber, we have to go.” she pushed as Amber shook her head, “I’m not leaving her.”
