6. Could it be possible?
Daxter
The company manager and longtime friend, Jackson Collins, walks in through the door. Despite being older than me, we get along very well; you could even say he's one of the few friends I have. He worked with my father, and when my father retired, he asked Jackson to continue serving as my right-hand man.
"How was the party?" He's one of the few people who know about my whereabouts.
"Well, I can categorize it as strange. Things happened, so I can't say it went badly."
My friend gives a half-smile, not understanding my words.
"It seems you didn't find what you were looking for. Didn't you find any girl to take home?"
When he mentions that, the memory of a certain young woman, one of the few who have visited my sanctuary, makes me want to have her in front of me, give her a s******g, and then have rough s*x with her. But instead, I'm here, stewing in my frustration.
"Indeed, I didn't find what I was looking for. Do you have information about the shipment?"
Jackson sighs. He sits in the chair in front of my desk and looks at me before speaking.
"It seems that the people interested in screwing us over fell into the trap and followed the bait of the false information. The fact that they violated your privacy tells us there's a snitch in the company. It's only a matter of time before they're caught".
I nod at his words. But the discovery that someone among my own is betraying me makes me want to find them and show them that you don't mess with me.
"That card has already been played. Now we must find another way to set traps. This time they were more skillful and fell for it, but we don't have any data leading us to them".
I see my friend lost in thought, but he doesn't dare to ask.
"Tell me, how did they manage to get into your house?" He asks me directly, but the speed of my brain makes me respond almost immediately.
"Apparently, it was some kind of d**g that took effect when I was already in my apartment. I don't remember much of that night".
He just nods and begins to rise.
"I'll keep an eye out. We're going to take down that group of idiots who want to see us defeated. See you later." When my friend leaves, I lean back in my chair thinking about that woman.
Yes. That woman. Last night while I was in bed, I decided that when I find her, I'm going to keep that delinquent with me until I get bored of her. She must pay for what she did. She made me look like a fool, and I won't tolerate that.
There's a knock on the door, and before I give permission to enter, I see Cassandra's face peeking in.
"Hello, darling. Are you busy?" She asks me in her typical spoiled tone.
"Yes, I'm very busy. What do you want?" She doesn't wait any longer and comes in.
"I came to see how you were. The truth is, I miss you. It's been a long time since you and I spent quality time together". She makes a pout that seems completely fake to me.
"What do you mean by 'quality time?' Sleeping together?" The way I describe what we did makes her blush.
"Don't be like that with me. You know I love you. I've always loved you. I just need a chance to prove it to you". I shake my head. I'm not interested in her intentions.
"That's not going to happen. And I'm going to ask you to leave me alone. And preferably, when you come, schedule an appointment with my secretary."
When I say that, I see her turn pale. She's used to being pampered wherever she goes. She feels supported by her last name, and it's something I need to make clear to her. It doesn't matter what we did in the past or whose daughter she is. I'm not interested in having a relationship with her.
"Fine... I'm leaving. But I'm not going to give up on you. You're going to be my husband because that's what your family and mine expect." She leaves my office and slams the door, shaking the glass walls.
Something in her tone or words makes me feel uneasy. I know her goal has always been to be my wife, and my mistake was getting involved with her. I ended up in her bed at the wrong time. But I was young and didn't care where I put my "buddy."
The door opens again, and a couple of fools walk in.
"What did you do to the woman? She's furious". Angelo and Emmanuel, my best friends, enter my office without warning. Does no one ask for permission, or is this a public office?
"She's still obsessed. But forget her. She's nuts." My mom would definitely give me an earful if she heard how I talk about her goddaughter.
The two idiots burst out laughing. They always say I'll be the first to get hitched. But nothing could be further from the truth.
After a few minutes, they both get serious.
"It's not so strange that they could get into your apartment if we understand that you yourself brought the enemy into your home. The problem was how easily they breached your equipment and took the information. From what I saw, it only took them a few minutes to grab what they were supposedly after and stash it on a device. So either your password was too easy, or the hacker was really good. Most likely, when you dozed off, the girl let someone in. Did you check the cameras?
My friend Emmanuel is the one helping me with all this cyber espionage stuff. He knows enough about the subject, and the detective helping me is part of his staff.
"The cameras were messed with, so we couldn't see who came in or when the girl left". Thinking of her, I feel a mix of anger and longing, and without meaning to, the memory of the model pops into my head too. That damn perfume is playing against me.
"And haven't you thought that the one who could have done everything was the same woman you brought?"
A smirk crosses my face. No, that's not possible. She was too simple a girl to be able to do that. No, she must have let someone in.
"No, it's impossible. She seemed too naive and not very smart. I'm sure it wasn't her".
They both look at me with suspicion. They know I've always been distrustful, even of my own shadow, but now, I'm sticking my neck out for someone who took advantage of my trust.
Could it be possible that she...?
