Alexander’s POV The walk back to the library felt like marching toward a firing squad, though I would have preferred the bullets to the torture of what I was about to do. I’d just terrified my staff into silence, forcing them to hide their true natures, all to protect the woman waiting for me behind those double mahogany doors. I paused with my hand on the brass handle, taking a deep breath to steady the Wolf. Titus was pacing inside my chest, agitated and restless, his instincts screaming that we were in the wrong place. He hated Blackwood. He hated the smell of old grief that permeated the stones. But more than that, he hated that I was keeping us separated from her.
