"Did you hear what I said? The ladies are going to be lining up waiting for us. Do you really want to miss that? Rus asked, again trying to convince his friend that he needed to go to this party.
Tyler chuckled, “You mean to tell me that your game is so weak that you need me there to hold your hand?” Tyler teased. His eyes locked on Isabella who was being pulled away by Rebecca. His wolf screamed at him to follow her, but he ignored it, choosing to walk with his friends at a distance from her while at the same time pretending like he was not following her.
“Funny. I don’t need you there. I’m just saying it would be fun and you are missing out,” Rus retorted. While it was true that Rus could handle a party on his own, it had become their tradition to go to the first party of the year together.
Tyler smiled, “Trust me, I believe you, but as I said, I can’t. When my father says he will do something, trust me he will. I mean you’ve met the guy.” Tyler said, reminding them both of the intimidating aura that Tyler’s father possessed.
Rus thought about it and then nodded, “Forget it. Just tell me one thing; why are you following Rebecca, I thought you said she was overrated,” Rus said, changing the subject.
“I’m not following her, I’m headed to class,” Tyler retorted. His eyes were glued to Isabella. She had just broken free of Rebecca and was now entering one of the buildings.
Rus looked around and frowned, “You do know that your class is that way right” Rus said, pointing in the opposite direction.
Tyler peeled his eyes away from where Isabella had gone which was a lot harder than he thought. He then looked at his friend and said, “What are you talking about? Class is in Simmons Hall today.”
“Right, and Simmons Hall, is that way,” Rus said matter-of-factly.
Tyler looked around the place again and saw a bunch of students heading to class. When he noticed the direction, he was heading in, he realized that he was in fact headed in the wrong direction. However, he didn’t care. What he wanted to do was walk into Isabella’s classroom and pull her out, but he didn’t. He couldn’t. After all, she had no idea what she was and before he could ask, he needed to talk to his father about it. “Ok yeah, you’re right. I got turned around” he said, as he turned the other way and started heading toward his class, while at the same time ignoring his impulsive wolf.
“How did you get turned around? You’ve been here for two years. And I know for a fact that you spent the first year exploring the campus with many girls,” Rus said, knowingly as he followed Tyler toward what they both knew would be another boring lecture. Tyler didn’t say anything, instead, he just continued to class, hoping that it would end soon so he could catch a glimpse of Isabella. However, that didn’t stop Rus from speculating. “Seriously man what’s up? You’ve been acting strange ever since I ran into you. And don’t think I didn’t catch the glances you shot her in the elevator. Admit it you’re smitten."
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Tyler said, as he pushed open the door to Simmons Hall.
Rus chuckled, “You know exactly what I’m talking about. Why won’t you admit it? It’s ok. We’ve all been there.” He then had a thought and said in a voice that only they could hear, “Is she your mate?” Rus like Tyler was also a werewolf but from a different pack. Rus’s father who was the alpha of the strongest pack in New York, and Tyler’s father formed an alliance over 20 years ago when Rus’s aunt married Tyler’s father and the clans had been tight ever since.
“Hell no. If the moon Goddess even considered making someone that tragic my mate, I would reject her immediately,” Tyler snapped, a lot louder and meaner than he planned.
“Ok. Then what’s wrong? You know I’m going to keep bothering you until you tell me. I might not be the next alpha in my pack, but your growl doesn’t scare me,” Rus said, playfully. Rus was the youngest son of three. While his second older brother inherited the alpha trait from his father, he and his oldest brother did not. This worked out great considering in their pack if more than one person possessed the alpha trait, they had to fight for that position and many of the fights ended with someone dead. This was also a ritual performed in Tyler’s pack. Lucky for him his younger brothers already treated him like he was their alpha when their father wasn’t around.
Tyler chuckled and then, said, “I wasn’t looking at her,”
“Then who?” Rus asked.
“The girl next to her, she’s my mate,” Tyler said. He then walked into the already packed classroom that was the size of an auditorium and took a sit in the back of the room leaving Rus standing there in deep thought.
After a few minutes of trying to wrap his head around what Tyler had said, Rus finally noticed that he was standing in the hall alone. “s**t,” Rus said, as he sprinted toward the classroom.
Class hadn’t started yet, and he was able to spot Tyler as soon as he walked inside. As suspected, the man was already surrounded by girls. Rus rolled his eyes and then walked towards the seat next to Tyler which was already occupied by a guy named Patrick Dunellen. He was someone who was both envious of Tyler and afraid of him. He believed that if he followed him around, then one day, Tyler would take him under his wings and he could be as popular as him. Only, Tyler never acknowledged him. Nor did he like him because he was too much of a brown nose to take seriously. “Move,” Rus ordered.
Patrick started to protest, but when he looked up and saw Rus’s sharp brown eyes glaring down at him, Patrick quickly collected his things and moved to another seat. Tyler laughed and shook his head as Rus plopped down beside him. “Shut up,” Rus hissed.
Tyler shrugged then said, “Hey it’s not my fault that i***t was in your seat. No one told you to drag your feet.”
“Well I wouldn’t have dragged my feet, if you hadn't dropped such a huge bomb on me,” Rus, protested.
“I guess. But are you sure that girl was your mate? Your true mate and not just some false one? Rus asked, in a voice that only they could hear. He had seen many people in his pack who thought they found their true mate only to realize they were wrong.
Tyler nodded. “I’m sure,” he said back in that same voice.
“Dude. Congratulations? What pack is she from?” Rus asked.
Tyler shook his head, “None,” he responded dryly.
Rus shook his head as if trying to understand what his friend was saying. “Wait, is she human? She can’t be human, can she? Would your father even approve?” Rus asked, as a million other questions flooded his mind.
“No she’s not human,” Tyler said.
Rus sighed then said, “Ok because you kind of scared me for a minute,” He then thought about it for a second then asked, “Is she a pixie, fae, vampire, elf? Don’t tell me she’s a globin like that last b***h you f****d. What was her name?” he asked snapping his fingers.
“I don’t remember but no she is an Omega,” Tyler said. He then pulled out his computer and turned it on.
“Oh, that’s not bad,” Rus said, feeling like all the weight had been lifted off him.
“Yeah it’s not bad, but the problem is, she has no idea that she’s one of us,” Tyler said.
“How can she not know?” Rus asked.
Tyler shrugged, “She was adopted and from the looks of it her wolf has been dormant for years. Yesterday was the first time that it woke up,” Tyler explained.
“That’s not good. So what is your plan?” Rus asked.
“Talk to my dad. After that we’ll go from there,” Tyler said. A second later the teacher walked in and class began.
