My meeting with Mr. Cardenas, the Colombian Mafia leader, was set for two days from now. He was eager to hear what I had to say and insisted I come as soon as possible. I was packed and ready to go, but decided that I would head to California first and spend a day out there, hopefully working things out with Phoebe. I knew that she would be better if she led a life without me, but I was suffocating without her. I just needed to know if she still wanted me, or if she wanted to walk away. I shouldn't be selfish, and give her the space I know she needs right now, but I just have to know.
