Kari woke up with her back pressed tightly against Evan’s chest, his arms wrapped around her waist. She relaxed into him, still feeling emotionally drained from the day before.
“You awake?” he murmured against her ear.
“Maybe.” She yawned and shifted slightly, her body brushing against him in all the right places. He was hard, and a faint smirk tugged at her lips.
“I need to get to training,” he said, kissing the shell of her ear. “But I didn’t want to wake you.”
“You can go.” She tried to turn toward him, but he tightened his hold, keeping her still.
“I’d rather you stay near me,” he said softly. “I don’t like the idea of you being alone right now. Not when someone might try to hurt you again.”
