Kari woke on her side, facing Evan. He was still asleep, his face relaxed and peaceful. She didn’t want to wake him, knowing how poorly he had been sleeping. Instead, she traced the lines of his face with her eyes, suddenly wanting to memorize every edge and plane of him. She noticed the small patch of freckles on the bridge of his nose, the thin scar above the cleft of his chin, and his long eyelashes that nearly brushed his cheeks.
