Kari woke on her side, facing Evan. He was still asleep, his face relaxed and peaceful. She didn’t want to wake him, knowing how poorly he had been sleeping. Instead, she traced the lines of his face with her eyes, suddenly wanting to memorize every edge and plane of him. She noticed the small patch of freckles on the bridge of his nose, the thin scar above the cleft of his chin, and his long eyelashes that nearly brushed his cheeks.
Her gaze drifted lower, lingering on the outline of his Adam’s apple, the hard lines of his chest, and the strip of hair running down the middle of his stomach, disappearing beneath the sheets.
“What are you looking at?”
Her eyes flicked back to his. He was awake, watching her with hazy eyes and a smirk tugging at his lips.
“Just admiring.”
His smirk broa
