Evan finally ate dinner, though he still refused to leave Kari’s room. Mia took his parents back to the pack house to settle them into one of the guest rooms on the alpha floor. Exhaustion eventually pulled Evan under, and he drifted to sleep beside Kari’s bed. He woke with a stiff neck and the smell of coffee in the air. Blinking, he saw his father standing in the doorway with two cups in his hands. “You look like hell,” Max said, stepping inside and handing him one. “Thanks, Dad.” Evan took a sip. The coffee was dark and bitter, but the heat grounded him. “Where’s Mom?” “She’s having breakfast with Mia. She’s going to bring you a plate in an hour and try to convince you to take a shower.” Evan huffed softly. “Good to know.” Max sat down, his gaze drifting to Kari. “How’s she doing?
