Evan ended training with the younger warriors, sending them to lunch before scanning the field. His eyes landed on Kari. She had come out about an hour ago and stretched in the grass, soaking in the sun. After another double patrol the night before, she hadn’t gotten in until nearly two in the morning. He had barely slept until she finally slipped into his bed. He’d left her there that morning, curled up and breathing softly, knowing she was excused from training because of her schedule. Yesterday he had visited Isaac at his parents’ house. The warrior was recovering steadily, expected to return to patrols next week.
