Evan paced his room after his shower, torn between fury and embarrassment. Part of him knew he shouldn’t have attacked Joe, that Kari had specifically asked him not to. But the other part couldn’t stop hearing Joe’s taunt echoing in his head.

A knock at the door pulled him from his thoughts. Expecting Ty, he opened it and froze when he found Kari instead.
“Does your father know you’re here?”
She nodded, pressing a hand to his chest and gently pushing him back into the room.
“He sent me,” she said, closing the door behind her. “Mark is on his way up. Dad said he’s furious, so he doesn’t think you should see him until he’s explained everything.”
