Lily
He nods and turns me in a way that I can see the faces of the newcomers.
“The tall, apparently handsome princely bastard is my older brother, Prince Alfred. Heir to the throne of Noan. On his left is his wife, Naomi and that behind them is Nerissa, my soon-to-be ex.”
“I guess I will be NeLily or NaLily or is it NiLily?”
He chuckles and I feel proud for returning normality to that gorgeous face.
“Lily is just perfect.”
My cheeks are burning all over again at that.
“What do you want me to do?”
He looks down at me as if surprised by my question, but I truly have no idea what he expects of me. The fact that he is royalty and his cheating fiancee being here with the rest of the family speaks to the complicated nature of all this.
“Be yourself. You are just perfect.”
I don’t know how many times he has said this, but it still makes me blush. Thank God the song has ended. I pull him toward the couches. All this attention is making me uncomfortable. We have just taken a few steps when the passengers start chanting.
“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”
I look around and it dawns on me that we are standing right below the Christmas mistletoe.
“Do we have to?” I ask him. “She is watching,” I add. I don’t really know what his plans are with his fiancée, and I don’t want to assume.
“Let her watch. Your ex is watching too,” he tells me.
“I don’t care about him.”
Now that I have had some time to process everything, I don’t think Paul ever cared about me. He definitely never loved me. I don’t have any loyalty towards him.
Vince curls his sexy lips, and I feel all gooey inside.
“Let’s make it spectacular then,” he suggests before pulling me closer and dropping his head.
I instinctively wrap my arms around his neck and meet him halfway. Our lips lock in a passionate kiss that sends goosebumps all over my body. I am breathless by the time we break off the kiss and he is grinning at me.
“That was great. We should totally do it again,” he whispers and plants a light kiss on my lips.
It takes a moment for me to catch my breath. That was incredible!
“You are forgetting something,” I whisper back, and he looks at me as if confused.
“What am I forgetting, My love?”
Lord, this man and his charms. I snap myself out of this spell and remind him of what he seems to conveniently forget.
“This is all make pretend, remember?”
“We could go with the flow and see where this takes us.”
His suggestion should not get me excited, but it does. I am finally free to discover just who I am outside of the Reed family shadow. Maybe starting a complicated relationship with a prince is not such a good idea. Especially one with a fiancée who is now glaring at me.
“You are a prince,” I remind him.
“So?”
“This is never going to work.”
“You worry too much. Let your hair down and enjoy yourself. I don’t know about you; I love seeing my ex squirm. I have your back, you have mine. Let’s just have fun.”
I must like risks because I agree with his sentiments. There is no reason to be sad during the festive seasons because of some cheating, selfish idiots, who tore our hearts. No, they should be the ones moping.
“That was beautiful. New love is so exciting!” Nana beams the moment we return to sit next to her. At least she approves of our fake relationship.
A few minutes later, we all get on our feet to head up to our cabins. That is when Vince approaches the three people who walked in while we were on the dance floor.
I notice both the king and queen exchange stained looks. They must know that their older son got Vince’s fiancée pregnant. I wonder why they brought his fiancée along then.
I turn all my attention to Vince. It must be hard seeing these two again. It feels awkward, but I am not surprised that he only greets and embraces his sister-in-law, who flashed him a sad smile. I don’t know why I feel sorry for her. I don’t even know her.
“Naomi, this is Lilian, my inamorata. Lily, Naomi, Noan island’s graceful future queen.”
I process his words carefully as I greet Naomi. Is she not supposed to have a princess title since she is married to the heir of the throne? I must remember to ask him this when we are alone.
“Hello to you too, Little Bro. Who may this lovely lady be?” Prince Alfred says with an amused voice while holding my hand. I have immediately made up my mind that he is one of those arrogant egocentric men who have no regard for anyone else.
Vince quickly snatches my hand away from him before leading me away without saying a word to him.
“You have always been a joyful, free spirit. Do not let Alfred spoil your festive spirit,” Nana advises when we catch up with her as we head to the premium suite.
“He is infuriating, Nana. I am going to beat him up one of these days,” Vince complains and threatens.
“Nonsense! We, alone choose how people affect us. It would be a shame to spend all this time sad when you have a delicate Lily to explore.”
I choke on my saliva. This old woman has no filters.
I am glad when we get to the top floor and she heads to her cabin, leaving Vince and I on the balcony.
“Nana is right. Don’t let him get to you,” I tell him, and he starts apologizing.
“Please accept my apologies, My Lady.”
“You don’t have to apologize, Vince.”
“But I must. How can a man in his right mind let his emotions get spoiled by another man when he has a breathtaking angel by his side?”
He is now leaning so close to me, I can feel his heart hammering against mine. I am completely aware of Prince Alfred and Nerissa’s eyes on us on the background. I don’t have it in me to turn him down when his head drops to kiss me.
I let out a moan when he pulls me closer, his tongue exploring my mouth. This is all a show to get back at the two people who hurt him, but my body is reacting to his every touch, making me panic. I don’t want to fall for a fake boyfriend and end up getting hurt.
“Ahem!”
We break off the kiss to find the king looking at us. He is all greyed out, but I can see where Vince and his egocentric brother got their looks.
“Your Highness,” I greet with my eyes casted. Somehow, I don’t think this public display of affection is royal-like.
He nods slightly to acknowledge my greeting before turning to Vince.
“I need to have a word with you.”
I let out a sigh when he walks away.
“Excuse me, My Love. This shall be continued,” Vince declares charmingly before leaving me blushing. Lord, I am in trouble!
