Chapter Nineteen: The Escape

I woke up in a hurry. My mind not fully understanding what was happening, but my wolf was screaming at me to run. I opened my eyes and searched for any sign of danger, but all was still. The only sound that echoed in the darkness was the sound of the chirping crickets. I rolled over and tried to fall asleep again but there was still a nagging feeling at the back of my head. Something was going to happen. My wolf growled and before I could ask her what she felt, there was a sound of a bang echoing in the distance. My body instantly bolted upright, afraid. The sound stopped and I perked my ears, hoping it had only been the sound of the ground below us setting. After a moment, I regained control of my breathing and was about to lay back down when the sound echoed again, this time louder.
