He sighed, leaning back in his chair, but his hold on Isla didn’t waver. “You think I planned this,” he said, his voice quieter now. “That I wanted to bring Bree into this first. You’re wrong.” Isla glared at him, her frustration bubbling over. “Then explain it to me,” she snapped. “Because from where I’m sitting—literally—it looks like you don’t trust me enough to tell me anything.” Lucian chuckled softly, though the sound lacked any humor. “Trust,” he repeated, as if the word amused him. “You think that’s what this is about?
