“That's a bold statement," Thomas said, taking a small step back, his hand gripping his glass a little tighter. "But I don't think this is the time or place to discuss my daughter’s past relationships.” The fire crackled in the background as Thomas exhaled deeply, as though releasing some of the tension from the moment. His hand tightened slightly around his wine glass, but he didn’t say anything right away. I took another sip from my own glass, feeling the rich flavor of the wine coat my tongue as I silently studied him. Thomas wasn’t someone who wore his emotions on his sleeve.
