Chapter 2 - Freedom

Amalia Anderson We jumped into Nick´s Jeep and drove around campus, locating every hotspot we could. The little coffee shop outside my building was perfect for my caffeine overload; I needed to survive the lessons. I made sure to locate the best shops around, walk around the campus, and find the classrooms where I would be taking my lessons. It took us half a day to go through every building. I was in the Arts building, because, of course, I hated math and I loved to express myself through my artistic skills. Then Mase will start law school, his building was right on the opposite side of mine, so we had to cross the entire campus. Nick Jr will major in business, nothing new there, the typical degree for an heir. And Alexander will become an engineer... So yeah... we were all scattered around campus, and the closest one to my building was Alex. We walked around, mingled, and I got one or two glares around, due to the massive walls of muscle that were surrounding me. I looked tiny beside them... If only those muscles translated into inventive, and neurons, we could conquer the world, seriously... I love them to pieces, but they live for sports, school, and some d**k dip from time to time. "Alright, let´s see the rink, or do you prefer to have lunch?" Mase asked, and I nodded. "Food sounds about right. A bagel while walking around, and the coffee we had this morning was not enough for me." I said, and my stomach decided to grumble, making all of the idiots laugh. "The princess is hungry, and we'd better feed her before..." Alex paused, and everyone yelled, "She gets Hangry!" They made fun of me while I walked ahead, flipping them the bird. Those idiots knew me too well, and even though I just said I love them to pieces a minute ago, I also hated them to the core. We crossed the street to a cute dinner just outside campus. We sat and ordered some food. I went with my hearty safe choice of a cheeseburger and fries. Mase ordered some boneless chicken wings. Nick asked for a double bacon burger and fries, while Alex chose the eclectic option of Pancakes. As soon as we finished eating, Mason yawned. "I am f*****g tired..." he said and Nick nodded. "Yeah, a nap sounds about right," he stretched, and then Alex nodded. "We should ask for groceries to be delivered, and stay in watching a movie..." Alex said, and I looked at all of them. "What about the rink?" I asked, and Alex sighed. "Mely? We love you, but really? The first thing you want to do is see a frozen floor?" Alex said, and I took a shaky breath. Did I mention that not only did my father not take me seriously? Everyone! Every-f*****g-one of them... I took my purse and pulled out a twenty, "This should cover my food." I said, getting completely pissed at them. We had made a plan, a deal, and the assholes decided to pull out of it conveniently when it was getting exciting for me. "Mel!" Nick said, and I shook my head. "Go f**k yourselves..." I said, hung my purse on my shoulder, and turned around, leaving them there with their mouths open. The rink was a walking distance from campus, and I certainly needed the walk... I was fuming... and walking helped me calm down, but also incentives my creativity for revenge... because yeah, my grandmother eincarnated or not, I will get them for this f*****g asshole move. Three blocks away, the massive building, surrounded by a vast parking lot, made my stomach feel giddy. I made my way to the main entrance, and the lady at the ticket booth greeted me. "How can I help you?" she said, "I am here to meet Coach Logan..." I said, and she nodded. "Natasha Logan or Nathan Logan?" she asked, and I took a deep breath. I was not aware that there were two coaches with the same last name. The lady saw my confusion and she laughed, 2they are siblings... Hockey and figure skating..." she said and I nodded, and the almost rolled my eyes... why would she thing I want to speak to the f*****g hockey coach? "Natasha," I said politely, and she nodded. "Is she expecting you?" she said, and I nodded. "Yeah, tell her Amalia Anderson is here to see her," I said, and she nodded. She picked up the phone nd soon she buzzed me into the arena. I had been expecting a small college rink, but instead, it was a massive arena. When I saw the pendants of the Glaciers, I realized that this was the venue of a professional hockey team... "Amalia?" A middle-aged woman with a tight bun on her head greeted me. "Natasha?" I said and extended my hand. "Welcome, Amalia. I saw your performance at Nationals... imposing." She smiled, "But not good enough," I mumbled, and she smiled at me. It was kind, not condescending. "Well, if you consider that you were in third place among 25 contestants that made it to the nationals, that is something. But then, if you go further down the line, you were third place out of one hundred thousand girls in your category that couldn´t make it even to nationals," she said, and somehow those numbers made me feel accomplished, even when my father disregarded the third place. "Now, do you have your skates?" she asked, and I shook my head. "Alright, let´s get some at the concession stand... I want to see what you´ve got," she said, and I nodded. I was not expecting to be auditioned like that, but I was Amalia f*****g Anderson, and I was born ready. After dealing with the skate rental, Natasha led me to a locker room. "This is the girls´ locker room, and when there are home games, it is the visitors´ locker," she said. "The hockey team is on the ice right now, but they are about to take a break," she smiled. "I already told Nate," she said, and I nodded. "Now, gear up, and down the tunnel is the entrance to the rink," She said, and I nodded. I sat on a bench and removed my shoes, placing them in an empty locker. I strapped my skates, made a tight bun on my hair, and then headed to the ice. I looked around and saw how the players were passing the puck, and how the goalie stopped most of them. He was good. "MELY!" I heard my name and looked around. Suddenly, a bulky player skated out of the group and stopped right in front of me. He removed his helmet, and I gasped. "BOBBY!" I said, and he chuckled. "You have grown, kid..." he said, and I smirked. "And you are getting way old, Bob!" I smirked, and he laughed. "I am twenty-six, cuz... I am in my prime..." he said, and I rolled my eyes. "So, a Glazier... who would have thought you would be a frozen Dragon?" I joked and he laughed. "You are witty, kiddo," he said, and I rolled my eyes. My father knew my cousin was here as well... I feel tricked and played... "Round up, guys!" the coach called them... "Platt... over here..." he yelled at Bobby. "I've got to go. Call me if you need anything," he said, and I nodded. Bobby was my mother´s half-brother's son. He was seven when my uncle killed himself, and I was about to be born, so he is way older than me... and yes, he is the one who dragged us all to his games while growing up. "Alright, Amalia, you are up," Natasha said, and I slowly stepped into the ice. The skates weren't ideal, but the ice was good. Then, I gave a lap while the team stood in the middle. I closed my eyes, feeling the cool air on my face, and a smile painted on my face. Soon, I opened my eyes and looked at Natasha. With a twist and a stop, I nodded at her, and then I started my safest routine. Skating was freedom...
