History
Frank grew up in the Lunar Pack. They are a strong pack but chose peace over war. Standing up for themselves when it is needed to protect their territory, but first trying peace talks and making allies. Frank, the son of the Alpha, had all eyes on him when it came time to choose a mate.
He has passed the age of meeting his mate, but the moon goddess had other plans for him. After Frank and Melissa meet, Frank’s father has no other alternative but to accept a witch in their pack. When Frank becomes Alpha, he takes Melissa’s views and culture into account, implementing them in the rest of the pack.
“How can you throw away your heritage like this son!” His father pleads. A deep chest growl comes from the old man.
“I am not throwing away anything father! I am adding strength to our pack! My wife, your daughter-in-law, is a strong witch who willingly and lovingly protects this pack in ways no other pack would expect! Did you even think about that!” His father looks angrily at him before turning to look out of the window. His baby sister Lilly walks into the office after hearing one of their numerous fights.
“Did the two of you think this through by the way? You have been bouldering so loudly that even the Omega’s in the pack house can hear you. How do you think it makes Melissa feel, huh?” She turns around abruptly, slamming the door on her way out, making both of them look at the door with astonishment on their faces.
“Little fireball that one.” The old man sighs, shaking his head.
“Yeah, that is one thing we can agree on. I pity her mate.” Frank’s eyes dance with amusement. They both burst out laughing at the idea, then his father realizes how he must have hurt his daughter-in-law’s feelings.
“Son, please, I understand your point of view and I will apologize to Melissa, but we cannot. You cannot go ahead with this idea. You will lose control of the pack. They will turn against you and I don’t want to see what happens if they decide that we are no longer the Alpha family.” His father looks pained.
“Dad, whoever does not agree, will have to challenge and win against me first. Besides, it is not an order for the entire pack. It is an invitation to the interested members. Those who do not agree are welcome to stay.” Franks sighs just as Melissa softly knocks on the office door.
“Father.” Before Frank can even tell her to enter, she walks in shoulders straight, head high. She greets her father-in-law, kissing him on each cheek as per her culture, being a bit of a brat.
“Melissa, dear, I am sorry …” The old man starts, sighing deeply.
“No need. I know how the pack feels about me. I have been here long enough. They give me the respect due to a Luna, but they do not like it. I don’t mind. I will protect them nonetheless. They are my family, even if they do not see themselves that way.” Melissa shrugs, surprising both men.
Frank, proud of his beautiful wife, snakes his arm around her tiny waist when she joins him behind the desk.
“Still darling daughter-in-law, sometimes an old man forgets the world changes.” He mumbles. She walks over to him, taking both his hands in hers.
“Father. It is okay. I do honestly understand, more than you think. Now, join us tonight, please. I would love for you to see the lights and your son doing the maypole dance... it is very funny.” She winks at him, and he can’t help but laugh.
“I would love that, but I am afraid my old bones will not handle the cool air. Thank you. I will stay. You, young people, go and have fun.”
LATER THAT EVENING, AT THE FESTIVAL, there were, of course, members who did not agree with this new way of living and challenged Frank on it.
“Old farts if you ask me.” Lilly calls them as she makes jokes with her friends from school. But after the second and third Beltane festivals, their pack embraces the new traditions eagerly. Due to the conservative views of some of the members and the fact that Frank and Melissa do not believe in forcing anything down on anyone, the pack mingles more with their kind, letting the young ones roam the festival grounds.
Mating with other creatures was still frowned upon but did not happen for some reason. The pack young people found wolf mates at the festival, which made things easier. They could take part in the hand-fasting ceremony as a promise, a new tradition added to the pack, but there would be a proper mating ceremony later at the pack house.
Some members do not want to anger their Luna for fear that she might turn them into a rat. Sadly, cruel words were still spoken by some pack members who did not let go of the past as they tease Omega’s when nobody is looking.
At the end of the festival, however, most went home elated and happy. New pack members join as new mates are found. New adventures are experienced and new friends made. The mating ceremonies are next on the calendar, having the mothers all giddy.
Even the mothers who do not like Melissa, or the festival. In the early morning hours, when the pack is all settled back at the pack house and everything is quiet, Frank and Melissa sit on their porch swing, looking up at the moon. Happy.
Their first pup is on the way after a couple of years and not even the doctor is sure what is going to happen. They are both so excited that the room is decorated in a forest theme with witches flying over the full moon and wolves in the forest.
“Thank you, my darling witch.” Frank kisses Melissa’s temple.
“What for?” She sighs sounding content.
“For always dealing with this bunch of wolves with such patience and love...” He laughs.
“They are my family like I always remind your father, husband. I will give my life to protect them. Besides, watching the mom’s faces light up when their kids find a mate is the best feeling ever.” Melissa’s voice is filled with happiness.
“Yes, it is.” Frank laughs.
“Especially if it is one of the she-wolves I know, who doesn’t like me!” She bursts out laughing.
