“No…no…I…father…STOP!”
I woke with a start as my hybrid pillow was shaking and moving violently beneath me. Arius’ face was distorted in pain as his head rocked violently from side to side. Beads of sweat adorned his forehead. He was having a nightmare. I leaned over him and put my hand on his cheek.
“Arius? Arius, it’s okay.” Suddenly, his fearful eyes opened in a frenzy and in a flash he had spun us over, so he was on top of me, pinning me to the mattress, breathing heavily. I gazed up into his panicked eyes as he tried to control his emotions. He looked so different. So frightened. At that moment, all I wanted to do was comfort him.
