Coker was not going to be persuaded. "At least let Charley and me have another look-see to make sure we know what we're dealin' with."
Coker agreed. "One more day, and then we do what we came here to do."
"Damn," murmured Charley as we walked away. "That man wouldn't give you standin' room in hell."
"Guess that's why he's so successful," I said. "He doesn't compromise his beliefs."
At daybreak, Charley and I prepared to ride back to Battles Gap for another reconnoiter. As we saddled our horses, Ingacio walked up to us, leading his saddled horse.
