With a broken heart and a hazy mind, I ran. I ran, and instead of going to my apartment, where I knew Jacob's car would be, and subsequently he will come to get it at some point, I went in the opposite direction. Now my endurance is not great, so a few blocks over I had to stop, my chest heaving from both the impromptu running session and from crying and being in shock. Add to that the fact that I had no clue where I was, and it created the perfect storm for me to finally break down and have a complete meltdown. Not even when I heard the gunshot that killed a poor woman because of my selfish attempt to escape Daniels, that I felt so lost as I am feeling right now.
I thanked my lucky stars when I realised that I still have my phone with me, and retrieved it from my back pocket. I
