Dominic Eloise is completely unconscious after her confession, lights completely out. It's as dramatic a feeling as it is a moment, and I pray that this isn't a tragedy of the Shakespearean kind where she confesses her love for me and then dies. I continue talking to her erratically, animatedly, rustling her every so often. She will groan and furrow her brows, showing signs of life, and that is all I need. I keep making sure she is alive as I drive to the home of the doctor that I have been to only a handful of times before. I've told him to call every other doctor he knows to assist in this. I've made it clear that if Eloise dies, all of them die. The doctor, usually smug and aloof, took me rather seriously this time, sensing my urgency and resoluteness on the matter. She will not die. H
