(Sophie) I finished eating and pushed the container aside, but the heaviness in my chest hadn't gone anywhere. Alexander was watching me with that careful attention he always had, like he could see right through whatever mask I was trying to wear. "You know what's really getting to me?" I said, finally letting some of the frustration out. "Marcus and I are divorced. We're done. It should be over. But he won't let it go. I wish he could just stop. But he chose to escalate things further. What the hell does he think he'll get out of this?" Alexander leaned forward, taking my hand in his. "I know it is frustrating, knowing that he is constantly targeting you. But you have the power to stop him. Use that power more. If he pushes, you push back ten times harder."
