(Marcus) I sat in the holding cell, staring at the gray concrete wall. The orange jumpsuit scratched against my skin, stiff from too many washes. Today was my turn in court. I had followed Victoria’s trial through reports, watching her crumble under the evidence. Now it was my turn to sit under the same spotlight. The guard unlocked my cell. “Sterling. Time to go.” I rose, my legs stiff, my wrists quickly bound in cuffs. They marched me through the hallways.
