I was still staring out my office window, wondering who was watching me, when my phone rang again.
"Miss Lawson, this is Margaret Langford from the Children's Hospital Foundation. I'm calling about tonight's charity gala."
I had completely forgotten about the gala. With everything that had happened today, a charity event was the last thing on my mind.
"Margaret, I'm not sure I'll be able to attend tonight."
"Oh, please don't cancel. You're one of our major sponsors, and your presence would mean so much to the children. Besides, it might be good for you to be seen at a positive event after all the negative publicity."
She had a point. Hiding in my office wouldn't help my company's reputation. If anything, it would make me look guilty or weak.
"You're right. I'll be there."
