❤Dashiel
I didn’t have to look around at my fellow cellmates to know what they were thinking. We weren’t warlocks for nothing, and it was noticeably clear to us that none of this was a coincidence.
“Why do we have to vote?” Darnell from The Sacred Flame Coven yelled out. “I don’t want to vote for anyone but Dashiel,” I smiled to myself as I listened to their discussion.
“I agree, who are these shifters anyway? Do they really think they can tell us what to do?” Conrad from The Circle of Ember Coven spat out. He had a point though but still, I said nothing.
“As far as I am concerned, we can squish them all,” Darnell said. “Like a bug,” he added, making everyone laugh. I chuckled softly but suddenly stopped myself. I would not show weakness in any type of emotion.
“That Hylee girl really gets on my nerves,” Marc from The Rising Sun Coven, pointed out as he started to pace around the cell. “She’s got an almighty attitude that I am dying to shove back down her throat,” his hostility surprised me but not enough for me to think him serious. I shrugged off the threat and stood up.
“What do you think, Dashiel?” Ewart from The Divine Energy Coven asked me, and I sighed. I should’ve known it would come down to this.
“I say we give the dog the vote. He was the one to come up with the idea,” I said slowly. I could tell they were getting ready for an argument, but I knew how to handle them. “Now, now, just by voting for him to speak doesn’t mean he is our leader. If anything lets put him in the spotlight. Whoever is behind this may be dangerous and if we get into trouble for speaking out, then let the dog suffer,” I explained. I could see the light of understanding in their eyes and I nodded triumphantly. These guys didn’t have anything against me, and I was their leader. I went back to my bottom bed bunker and sat down. I could hear them talking about the possibilities of what could or would happen, but I didn’t pay them any attention. My main concern and focus were Hylee. I could tell she was considered a powerful witch. The way she carried herself, the way she walked and that flaming red hair of hers was enough to drive any man crazy. I hated the feeling this girl erupted within me but right now there was nothing I could do about it. Not only that but she was from a different coven. I closed my eyes, to block out all the surrounding noise, and thought about her. The way she moved, the way she talked and smiled. The confidence in which she did things. My mind wandered to her figure, which reminded me of a plump pear. Succulent and delicious. I could feel myself getting hard and I promptly opened my eyes and stopped my train of thoughts. I hated this.
❤❤❤
As we were let out for the daily time out, I could see the main ones gathering together. With a quick nod to my fellow cellmates, I headed over to join them.
“Ah, so, warlock, what’s it going to be?” I had no idea who he was, but I was tempted to strike him down, just to show him who is the real boss around here. However, I simply smiled and nodded over at the dog.
“Right, so we all agree that it will be me,” he said nervously, and I wished I hadn’t forgotten his name. “Alright get everyone together, its time,” he added as he stood up straighter. It did nothing for him really, but I wasn’t about to point that out. I glanced over my shoulder and waved over my cellmates. Everyone that had been standing behind us now joined us. It made me feel uncomfortable being amongst these shifters, but I had to admit that I, too, wanted answers. The dog stepped forward and it was already clear that the guards were on edge.
“What are you doing?” one of them asked.
“We demand answers,” the dog declared. “And we are not going to move until we do,” he added. The guards looked at each other and the one known as Keanu raised his hand.
“Alright, wait here and don’t do anything stupid,” he said before he rushed off. I couldn’t believe it; this may actually work. I got feel the excitement bubbling up within me as we all waited for his return. I could feel everyone’s tension as we all watched Keanu return with a male and female. As they approached us, I took a moment to study both of them. I knew immediately that the female is a high priestess and the male is a high priest. A couple, no doubt. They stopped about fifteen feet away from all of us and the female smiled warmly. It made my skin crawl and almost immediately I knew I didn’t trust her.
“I see that you’ve found your voice,” she said. “Rightfully so, however, it took you all a lot longer than I had thought it would,” she added as she glanced over at the male beside her.
“My name is Killian, I am the High Priest of my coven,” he introduced himself and all I could think was how sketchy this all seemed. “This is my wife, Aria and she is the High Priestess of my coven,” he added as he smiled sweetly over at Aria.
“We run an institution called Lake Wood School of Fine Arts,” Aria announced, and I frowned. I remembered reading about this school on the internet a little while ago. It was a place for young witches and warlocks to attend when they were either not in a coven or unhappy with their coven. None of it made any sense to me but I was on high alert. “We’ve spent a very long-time gathering data about shifters, magical beings, or more to the point, supernatural,”
“Over the years our fascination has grown but we would always hit a roadblock,” Killian added. “We realized that the only way we would get to learn more is by studying the different species closely,”
“We should’ve asked for volunteers but that proved to be unsuccessful and so we took our time in gather information and eventually we kidnapped you all,” Aria said softly. I hated her sickly-sweet voice.
“What do you plan on doing to us?” the dog asked, and I glanced back at them, waiting for their answer.
“We plan to do nothing but study you. Get to know how each shifter, each supernatural works and that’s it,” she answered. It wasn’t much of an answer and I could already feel the tension rising behind me. Apparently, no one else liked her answer either.
“Please, calm down, so far, we have studied how each of you manages your cells, how you interact with each other during mealtimes, and of course the time you are out here,” Killian said. “So far, we’ve done some studies with the witches and we will get to all of you in good time,” he added. The witches had been tested? Studied? I looked behind me and my eyes caught Hylee. Why hadn’t she mentioned this earlier? It was plain to see that everyone was on edge around the witches now. They had deliberately withheld information.
“Oh stop, they don’t know anything,” Aria suddenly raised her voice and snapped out. It took a lot of us back and she quickly smiled. “In due time you will all understand what we are looking for,”
“Do you plan on letting us return home?” someone shouted out. I rolled my eyes. So much for letting the dog speak for us all.
“Of course,” Killian answered.
“We aren’t going to hurt anyone, and you will all be returned to your homes soon enough,” Aria added as she reached out and latched her arm around Killian’s. I suppose that was her way of showing strength, but I wasn’t buying into it.
“We are almost finished with the witches and then we will move on to the next group,” Killian continued to explain, and it was my turn to ask a question.
“Who is next then?” I shouted out. Killian and Aria’s eyes met mine and I froze. They where powerful witches, that much was obvious. I wanted to cower in fear, but I forced myself to stand tall.
“Why, you of course,” came the horribly sweet response from Aria. She turned away and shared that sweet smile with everyone else. “Please, understand that each of you will get to shine and have your questions answered. For now, continue as you have been, we are watching,” she turned to leave, and I felt someone push against me. I looked down to see Hylee trying to push her way through.
“When you are done with us, will you let us return home?” she called out, making Killian and Aria stood and turn to face her. The look on Aria’s face was enough to have everyone take a step back.
“As I said, when we are done, you will all be going home,” Hylee nodded and shrunken back into the crowd. I felt bad for her. Although the witches already had been tested, I had to wonder what the connection was between them. This time no one stopped Aria and Killian from leaving. We all stood, probably shocked, and confused for a moment. It was Keanu that broke through the silent moment.
“Alright, your hour of time out starts now, enjoy!” everyone split into their kind, probably eager to talk to each other about the new bit of information. I, on the other hand, grabbed Hylee by the arm and dragged her towards the wooded area. I didn’t go too far and not out of sight from the guards.
“Why didn’t you mention that you had been tested?” I hissed out. The girl looked up at me and it broke my heart. The sadness was clear in her eyes, but she hurried to fix herself up.
“Was it of any importance?” she snapped, and I rolled my eyes. This girl!
“Yes!”
“Well, I didn’t think so, besides, you heard what she said. We are to stay here until they are done with us,” she said sourly. I wanted to ask what the connection was between her and Aria, but I stopped myself. Now was not the time.
“What do they make you do?” I asked curiously.
“Perform magic, separately and together,” she explained. “I think they want to see who is the strongest, or the most powerful. Not only as individuals but in teams as well,”
“Do you think they are planning a war or something?”
“I honestly have no idea. I mean, I thought I knew but now…now I think that I know just as much as the rest of you,” she sighed as she leaned against the palm tree and the sudden desire to caress her cheek was so overwhelming that I forced myself to take a step back. This obsession with her was becoming dangerous. Hylee seemed to pick up on the change between us and I thought she was going to act hostile towards me. So, when she reached out and pulled me towards her, I was completely shocked by the action. “IS this the real reason you pulled me aside?” she whispered. I shook my head as I gazed deep into her eyes. “No?”
“No,”
“What a shame,” she said before she leaned up and kissed my cheek. It was a feeling I had no idea how two describe but when she pulled back, I wrapped my arms around her waist and pressed my lips against hers. Never, ever, in my life have I ever wanted to kiss someone as badly as I did right now. Hylee didn’t deny me or push me away. Instead, she wrapped her arms around my neck and moaned against my lips.
“Hey!” someone called out and we abruptly pulled apart.
“Until dinner, lover boy,” she sang out softly as she left me alone under the tree. What the hell had just happened? I watched her walk away and I sighed. I’ve got it bad.
