This is utter bullshit. I wasn’t in the mood for this but, yet here I was standing among my cellmates.
“Do you all understand?” Aria asked as she looked over at us. I didn’t bother looking at the other four girls. They weren’t from my coven and although Aria is my High Priestess, I didn’t appreciate this whole ‘kidnapping’ situation she had going on.
“You want us to do what now?” Cornelia from The Crescent Sisters Coven asked, with attitude.
“I want you to show us,” Aria repeated as she waved her hand over at her husband, Killian, and sidekick, Misty. “What you’ve got,” she finished off and I rolled my eyes as I stepped forward. It was time to show these idiots what being a witch really means. I closed my eyes, to center myself, and then called upon the fire element.
“Sweet heat, come to me,” I could feel the rush of heat surrounding me, comforting me the way it always did. I held out my hands and opened my eyes. I had a target in view, and I aimed straight for it. The big bale of hay caught alight and I smiled. “Thank you, my faithful fire,” I whispered before sending the element back.
“See, just like that,” Aria said proudly, and I smirked as I fell back in line. Cornelia was next as she stepped forward. She held the power over water, and I was curious to see her moves.
“Water caress me and put out that fire!” she held out her hands toward the burning bale of hay. My fire was slowly put out by the water and the smile faded. My fire should’ve been stronger, but ok, you know…water and all. “Thank you, water,”
“You, go,” Aria pointed at Grace from The Raven Coven. The shy, timid girl stepped forward and shakily held out her hands.
“Wind, you soothe me,” I saw her hair lightly lift up and the girl smiled. “Came those raging waves,” she whispered. I watched in awe as she calmed the water until it lay in a puddle. I was impressed.
“Next,” Aria pointed at Petunia from The Enchanted Moon Coven, who shook her head. “No? Are you sure?”
“Thank you, my friend,” I heard Grace whisper. Petunia stepped forward and held out her hands.
“Um…mother nature is my dearest, come to me,” the sudden smell of freshly cut grass suddenly filled the room. I breathed in deeply and I couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across my face. Ok, that was pretty cool. “Water, fire, and wind, destroy, help them to grow,” she said as she took another step forward. The soft breeze by the bale of burnt hay, paused, and moved. The puddle of water looked as if it was bubbling up. I had thought I was impressed by Grace but holy s**t! A patch of grass formed and slowly a sunflower rose up and blossomed. It was a sight to see. “Thank you, mother nature, you always bless us,”
“Nice, you, go,” Aria pointed at the last girl, Kira from The Forest Path Coven and the blonde-haired girl stepped forward. I thought I was confident but the way she moved put me to shame. She moved gracefully as she held out her hands.
“Spirit, you are all, you are everything, come to me,” she spoke loudly, clearly, and even I got goosebumps. What I felt next was something I had never felt before. It was as if I was being wrapped up in a warm hug by my whole family. That suddenly made me miss them and I felt the tears well up, but the hug tightened, and warmth rushed over me, much like when I call upon the fire. I felt safe, comforted, and loved. It was an amazing feeling as I watched Kira enhanced Petunia’s little sunflower. It grew and more sprouted up. Butterflies appeared and I swear I heard the birds chirping. “You always bring us such happiness and joy, thank you spirit,” Kira stepped back and the warm fuzzy feeling slowly subsided. I immediately missed the feeling and sighed. She was by far the strongest.
“Well done ladies, now, was that so hard?” Aria turned on her heel and headed over to Killian and Misty. I wasn’t a fool; I knew them all too well. This plan of theirs was working out a lot better than I had given it credit. So far, they had found the strongest witch and it wasn’t me. I saw Aria glance my way and I already knew she was disappointed. I am…no, I was her leading witch but not anymore.
“Your gift is amazing,” I heard Grace whisper to Kira. I had to say, I agreed with her statement. Her gift was amazing, and I was curious to know what else she could do.
“Alright, for now, you will all be escorted back to your cell. We will discuss and regroup tomorrow,” Aria said as she stormed off with Misty right behind her. Killian stayed behind and I smiled politely at him before following the others out of the large training room. Once we were back in the cell, I went straight for my bed. This whole thing had drained me and all I wanted to do was sleep. I didn’t want to think about what tomorrow would bring. I hated all of this.
❤❤❤
“Ok, ladies, yesterday we got to see how you each use your gifts. Today, I want you to team up and use them, ok?” Aria said as she smoothed down her black pencil skirt. “So, let’s start with Kira and Petunia,” Kira and Petunia both stepped forward and I watched as they approached a new bale of hay. I took this moment to look over at Aria and Killian. They were the most important people in my life and right now I was failing them. I didn’t know who I would be teamed up against. Surely, they wouldn’t put me with Cornelia. “That’s lovely ladies but…let’s pretend the bale of hay is attacking you, ok?” I looked over at the two girls and smiled. They had grown a beautiful summer garden all around the bale of hay. It was quite amazing to see, but Aria was on to something. She wanted defense or attack. Not nice and pretty. The little garden slowly disappeared, and vine started to tangle itself around the hay. It got tighter and tighter and then POOF. Hay everywhere.
“Well done,” Killian called out. Two men came rushing in with a new bale of hay and I sighed. Was I next?
“Cornelia and Grace, come show us what you got,” Aria said, and I was truly shocked. I mean, was I not to be partnered up with anyone? Water and wind…I wonder what they could do. I watched and they both approached the new bale of hay. The rain started pouring down and then I could see the wind. It was rocking the hay quite violently, but the water was drenching it, making it heavier. I smirked. Maybe those two weren’t meant to be teamed up together.
“Come on!” Killian cheered on. The rain turned into a storm and the wind moved and shifted into a twister. It was quite a sight, to be honest. I continued to watch until Aria told them to stop.
“Alright, next up, Kira and Haylee,” Aria said as the two men came in once again with a new bale of hay. I walked up to Kira, who looked so happy and nodded.
“Let’s do this,” I said to her. She smirked but faced forward. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I loved connecting with my element. “Fire of heat, come to me,” I whispered. I felt the heat roll over me and warm me up from the outside in. I opened my eyes and I could feel the spirit all around me. The two elements did compliment each other rather well. Once again, the hay caught on fire but this time, I made sure to make it blazing hot. Kira added to it but cause the fire to turn a soft shade of lavender. It was amazing. Purple flames. It lapped and ate at the hay as if it was nothing.
“Well done!” Killian called out and I smiled.
“Yes, I agree,” Aria said as she went to stand by him. I waited as they whispered together.
“Is it wrong that I am having so much fun?” Kira asked me softly. I turned to her, surprised she was addressing me, and slowly nodded.
“I’m having fun too,” I admitted. It felt weird saying it out loud. Especially since I was more of a loner. However, as I glanced back over at Aria, I knew that this is what she wanted. Not one witch but more. She wanted a team. I should’ve known.
“Ok, ladies, thank you so much for today,” Killian said as Aria rushed off. I wanted to talk to her, I needed to find out how far her plans where coming along. I was curious. I quickly hurried after her, but Killian stopped me. “No, Haylee,”
“I need to talk to her,” I said seriously, but he shook his head as he came over to me. The others were led out and it was just the two of us.
“You know you can’t be seen with her,” he said softly.
“I know, but I want to know what’s going on,” I pouted up at him and he smiled.
“I know you do, but right now, we haven’t discussed anything with anyone. You and the other witches are the only ones we’ve tested so far,” he informed me. Well, I wasn’t sure how I felt about that.
“When are you going to test the others?” I asked curiously. Killian chuckled.
“Ah Haylee, you are so nosey,” he pointed out and I nodded. It was true. I was nosey. “Look, you’ll get to know everything soon enough. For right now, I need you to just pretend like you know nothing, can you do that?”
“Yes,” I replied. I flipped back my long black hair and left the training room. I already knew the way back to the cell and when I got to the door, the guard nodded.
“Don’t do that again,” he hissed out. He didn’t know me, and I didn’t care. I simply nodded and went inside. He locked the gate and then left.
“What took you so long?” Kira dared to question me, and I turned on her. I opened my mouth, ready to give her a piece of my mind but I remembered Killian’s words.
“I wanted answers,” I finally spat out. It wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t the whole truth either. I went up to my bed and laid down. Day two of witching had been just as tiring as day one. I had to wonder what tomorrow would bring.
❤❤❤
“What do you mean, we aren’t going?” I yelled out at the guard.
“Aria gave me strict instructions, no trail today,” he said once again, and I rolled my eyes.
“Fine,” I muttered before heading back to the table I shared with the other witches. I spotted the males over by the other table and smiled sweetly. I was quite curious about those warlocks. I had to wonder what kind of power they possessed. I didn’t recognize any of them so that meant I was the only one from my coven that was ‘taken’. I suddenly felt a whole lot better. That had to count for something right? I wasn’t sure what, but I was going to hold onto that for dear life. I didn’t bother looking at the various shifters around me. I didn’t care about any of them and their ability to shift into animals.
“What were you doing Haylee?” Kira asked me and I ground my teeth together. This girl was seriously getting on my t**s with all her questioning.
“What’s it to you?” I spat out rudely. She looked somewhat taken aback but I didn’t care. I wasn’t made to care. I looked down at my tray and groaned. Beef curry. Yum.
